Hey,

I started posting Shorts recently and they get way more views than my normal videos. But I feel like my long videos are performing worse since then.
Is this just in my head or have others noticed this too? Curious if Shorts audiences actually hurt long-term growth.

It’s definitely not in your head. Shorts subscribers have a completely different attention span. When you drop a long video, YouTube often tests it on your subscribers first. If those Shorts subs ignore it or click and leave after 10 seconds, your initial CTR and retention tank, which tells the algorithm the video is dead.
They are basically two different platforms under one roof. Don't expect Shorts viewers to convert into loyal long-form fans.

long form video will out perform quick fire shorts most day .

Many creators feel shorts reduce attention for long vides because short content is faster to consume. viewer habits have changed a lot.

I don't think youtube shorts are fully killing long videos. shorts are just bringing more short attention traffic. long videos still work for deep content.

Yeah, One thing that helps is keeping a clear separation in content style so viewers know what to expect from each format. You might also want to track which traffic source is driving your long videos before making any big changes.

shorts is different type of content and it can not be compared with a long time video. Shorts are more popular rn but you can use them as a hook for a long videos

I've noticed that since TikTok came along, user habits have gradually changed. Short videos are becoming the trend. Only videos with really good content are effective.

You need to distinguish whether your content published in reels does not contradict the content on YouTube. If views are based on subscribers, this could be detrimental. If only new users and a completely new channel, it could simply be a coincidence.

Honestly, I've had better results using Shorts as a discovery tool rather than expecting those viewers to watch long videos. From what I've seen, Shorts and long videos can attract different types of viewers, so the performance gap is pretty normal.

For me, short videos have been more effective lately due to user trends favoring speed and up-to-date information. However, I still recommend mixing different types of videos to provide a foundation for your content and ensure you have high-quality video footage.

Short videos are for people with short attention span. Long form videos are for a different audience. If you provide good quality of long form videos some of your audience will stay and watch but not all of it, that's why you see long form videos underperforming.

Long-term growth for your channel comes from content that's engaging enough for viewers. The two things aren't related, short or long videos essentially aim to create content that targets a specific audience. You should focus on content research that's the most important thing...

Short vidoes are for attnetoin grabbing and it gets quick subscribers. Long video are for other purpuse if the user want to see longer version of the video. Think of short video as trailer and long as main content. Long form will always have lesser views than shorts.

it's not just in your head. A lot of people noticed that heavy shorts posting can hurt long video performance because the algorithm starts pushing your channel more to shorts audience. Try balancing or taking a short break from shorts

I post both Shorts and long videos, and they seem to reach different audiences.

yeah happens a lot, shorts audience and long video audience don’t always mix
youtube pushes them differently so long vids can look weaker after shorts start popping
best move is keep shorts for reach but don’t rely on them for long content viewers
try linking shorts to related long vids or it stays split audience.

A lot of creators feel shorts reduce attention spans because viewers get used to fast content. this can make it harder to keep people watching long videos.

i think people blame shorts too often. usually the issue is audience mismatch. a short can pull thousands of viewers who'd never sit through a 15 minute video. youtube learns from that behavior. shorts aren't killing long form. they're just attracting a different crowd than many creators expect.
