One thing that actually worked for me was updating old pages that were stuck on page 2 or bottom of page 1.
I didn’t just change the title or add more words. I checked what the top ranking pages covered, added the missing sections, improved the intro, added internal links from stronger related pages, and removed weak filler content.
Within a few weeks, some keywords moved from positions 12–18 into the top 5. No new backlinks were added during that time, so it was pretty clear the content update and internal linking made the difference.

Better alignment with search intent usually leads to the biggest ranking gains since content that directly answers what users are looking for tends to perform better than pages focused mainly on keywords

mine is my site and the one thing that consistently moved rankings for me was tightening up on-page structure + internal linking. I updated titles/H1 to match intent properly, then linked related pages together so Google could understand the site structure better.
