Hello,
I am targeting a very niche product and the CPC for my keywords has gone insane. I am paying $8–10 per click, and my budget can’t handle it. I tried lowering bids, changing match types, and adjusting targeting, but it’s barely helping.
Any strategies to lower CPC for high-competition, low-volume keywords?

Improve your ad Quality Score to lower the CPC naturally, and try adding negative keywords to stop burning budget on irrelevant clicks.

Sometimes lowering bids kills traffic too fast, You should spit campaigns and test cheaper geo or device targeting to reduce average CPC.

Hello and I think you should Improve Quality Score, target long-tail variants, and cut waste with strong negatives so you pay less for clicks that actually convert.

When CPCs get that high, I usually stop focusing solely on bid adjustments.
Better ad relevance, stronger landing pages, and tighter keyword grouping can sometimes lower costs more effectively.
It's also worth testing adjacent long-tail keywords that competitors may be overlooking.
In very small niches, finding cheaper traffic often comes from better targeting rather than lower bidding.

I've had some success by expanding beyond the obvious commercial keywords.
Related problem-solving searches can be less competitive and still convert well.
Improving Quality Score can also help reduce costs over time.

I used the trick was creating very tight ad groups with exact match long-tail keywords, it pushed quality score higher and cpc dropped a bit.

Target long-tail, low-competition keywords and refine match types with negative keywords to filter expensive irrelevant traffic.

Explore complementary traffic sources like social ads, native ads, or influencer partnerships to reduce dependency on expensive search clicks.

You should consider diversifying across multiple advertising platforms as alternative traffic sources. In highly competitive niches, it can be very difficult to reduce CPC costs.

Focus on improving your Quality Score by hyper-optimizing your landing page relevance, and test long-tail informational keywords with an automated Maximize Clicks strategy.

Do you have competitors for your keywords? Don't let Google automatically adjust the CPM (Cost Per Click); adjust it yourself and set a manual limit.

If CPC is already $8-10 in a niche market, there may not be a magic trick to cut it in half

What helped me in similar situations:
  • Improving Quality Score (CTR + landing page relevance)
  • Adding more negative keywords
  • Focusing on long-tail search terms
  • Splitting ad groups into very tight themes
  • Testing different GEOs, devices, and schedules
In some niches, expensive clicks are simply the cost of entry

Try switching to longer-tail, informational keywords and capture intent through blog posts, or use Maximize Conversions with a strict target CPA

I think lower competition times or locations can also reduce CPC. checking reposts may show cheaper opportunities you missed.

try long tail combos or move some traffic to broad with negatives, also test other platforms if cpc insane.

Note that "Broad terms" have the highest CPC.
- Get cheaper rates from targeting specific keywords.

Example:

Broad term (SEO service, SEO agency)

Use like this pattern: (Link building for local businesses, affordable local seo services, seo audit for small business)

If you follow like this, you can easily set your budget to $5 to $10 per day.

Note: You must target very narrow niche to get perfect results>>>>

Apply this idea and let me know your results back :)

You cannot fully reduce high CPC keywords, but you can avoid them. I usually use long tail keywords instead of short ones.

That $8-10 cpc on low volume is brutal, especially if your niche is already tight. forget lowering bids directly, that's a race to the bottom. you need to think about what the algorithm actually values. it's not just about your keywords, it's about the entire user journey and your site's authority. are you sure your landing page is giving the algorithm zero reason to doubt its relevance and speed? that's where the real gains are

Use alternative or supplementary accounts instead. Short, highly competitive keywords tend to have higher CPCs.
