$50k/month selling AI automation services to small businesses

How many emails you are used now and how you send so many what is the system you use and are those emails gmails? I did have issue with gmails when i try to send more emails

So at this point in my career I have decided to pivot from my previous business into AI automation.

My other business is doing around $50-$60k/month right now (down from $100k), and while I am keeping it for cash flow, I do not want to expand it.

After much deliberation I decided to go with selling AI automation services to small businesses. This thread is going to track my progress until I hit my goal, which is $50k/month.

My first mini goal on the way to that goal is to hit $15k/month. This is the amount of money I need to make every month so that I can live a comfortable life. My monthly expenses are currently around $10k/month (family, etc), and I am very eager for this new business to replace my current income so I can focus on it fully.

The plan

The way I see it, this business comes down to 4 things:

1. Marketing
2. Sales
3. Fulfillment
4. Growth

Once I nail areas 1-3, I will have a working template that I can then add rocket fuel to. But my primary goal is to build the skeleton of the system first. I don't have much experience successfully running any kind of marketing. Sales I am decent from previous jobs. Marketing I am not good, despite some decent copywriting ability. Never run ads successfully, never done social media successfully (for my own brand). It will be a new experience.

Marketing

I want to focus on outbound first. I've got around 30 email addresses warming up right now. Once those are ready, I will set them up to send 30 emails a day to leads that I scrape from Apollo or LinkedIn or wherever.

To scrape the leads, I am testing a few things. There's a make scenario I used to scrape leads from Apollo, that worked pretty well. I had to pay maybe $25 for the api credits and was able to scrape around 10k leads, give or take. And I also played with Phantombuster, which allows me to scrape 2500 leads from LinkedIn per day. To get emails from there, however, I need to run them through Anymailfinder and that can get expensive. I think I will just scrape from Apollo for now until I get my systems more tuned.

I also have 5 mailboxes that are warmed up and already sending. I targeted CPAs for this first run, maybe a bad niche to target but I just wanted to try. No responses yet, around 300 mails sent. I may change the niche tomorrow.

Come to think of it, I think I will also double up and add another 30 or so mailboxes tomorrow. I really want this to work and outreach is a numbers game.

I'm also trying but failing to make social media content, I feel like I sound stupid. Or that I don't know enough about the topic in order to really talk about it. I have invested time into learning Make and N8n and some coding etc, but to be able to make snappy social media videos.. haven't really nailed that yet. But it's definitely something I want to do.

Sales

For sales, I have thought about doing a few for free in exchange for testimonials. And also to practice a little bit. I know how to do all the stuff but I've never actually done it for a client.

Don't have much to say about sales since I haven't gotten any meetings with prospects yet.

Fulfillment

So what am I selling? Basically 3 things:

1. Database reactivation - this is where companies give you their database of dead leads and you set up a little mini chatbot to text them and try to get them to book an appointment.

2. Customer support chatbot - train a chatbot on their industry, website, and offering and add it to their site so customers can go ask their questions.

3. Appointment booking - Cold email + appointment booking GHL setup. Essentially set up Instantly campaigns for businesses and trying to book appointments with their ideal prospects.

Database reactivation seems to be very hot right now, so gonna work on locking that in first.

Expansion

Ideally I would be able to hire 2 managers to oversee both of these things BEFORE so I could just get them to build it for me. Will I find those people? No idea. But I posted 2 jobs on Upwork - one for an appointment setter manager and one for a sales manager.

Probably very premature to be looking for people like that, but I'm honestly curious as to what's out there. I mean maybe it's possible that there is some appointment setting genius out there who can build me a team to get a gazillion appointments a week with boomer businesses. Anyway we'll see.

Thanks for following along, feel free to share your thoughts - especially if you see something that I missed.
Good luck with your journey!

This is an awesome breakdown you are basically building the foundation most skip. Database reactivation is a smart entry point; platforms like Agentra show how multi-agent setups can handle that plus support and booking seamlessly once you scale.

Oh nice! Good luck with your journey, Btw, just curious what was your previous business?

Very interesting journey @NoGirlsAllowed. How much do you charge/plan to charge per automation?

After creating the workflow, are you going to export and set it up for the clients on their account or you plan to run it for them and charge monthly maintenance fee?

The interview angle works as long as you keep it about their ops, bottlenecks, what’s eating time or money right now. You’re basically doing a discovery call without calling it that. The transition is easy if you summarize what you heard at the end and say something like “I see this a lot, we’ve automated parts of this for similar businesses, want me to sketch what that could look like for you?”. If they say yes, you’re already halfway into a sale without a hard pivot.

Hello, how are you? Currently, I’m also looking to start a business in AI Automation, but I still haven’t found the right direction yet. Would it be okay if I message you privately so I can learn from you? I really hope you receive this message and reply to me.

Interesting read! Just curious, why not just cold call?

It’s much easier to get a conversation with someone, and you can get valueble feedback and learn more about real pain points from the targeted niche, and then you can build out the solutions they actually need

Gave up cold emailing a long time ago. I picked up cold calling and never looked back

The answer is VOLUME

Good luck with your journey! Well done for the 1st business, its not easy to reach 100k/mo.. Even though it dropped 50% now, still great achievement. Wondering why aren't you trying to scale that one when its already working?
