1. It kills signups. Potential new members will literally abandon signing up once they get to the "let us scan your face" or "send us your ID."

2. It has zero impact on stopping scammers, trolls, etc... It slowed them down for a little bit but now they're back.

I'm in favor of keeping porn away from kids but this isn't the way to do it.

it's never been about kids, it's about data mining, cloning people, transhumanism, digital prisons, and a whole lot of other things that I can't discuss here

many are still falling for this, though...

Personally, I hate KYC with passion, nowadays I don't join any site, or use any service anymore (unless it's really critical to my life or health) before I ask them about their KYC policies.

Just this morning some agency contacted me with regards to some business stuff and the first question I've asked them right off the bat was a plain, straight-to-the-point "are you going to KYC me at ANY point during the business and / or cashout process? Because if you do, I'm not interested, but thanks for the offer, I appreciate it"

Those were the exact words I used and - to my surprise - the individual said that there is no KYC involved at any step. Of course, I wasn't born yesterday, so I still don't trust him / her, but - for what it's worth - this is the first time in ages when I hear a company say that they don't want to KYC me, which I found interesting :)

My partners and I ran an experiment on some domains that we were going to dump.

This is the results of our experiment

1. +40% of people do NOT want to give you a phone number. So they quit the signup process there. (( Email verification they're cool with))

2. +70% of people are hostile to facial recognition

3. Almost 100% refuse to upload a copy of their ID (unless for the purpose of earning money.. even then they were hostile.)

Obviously, we're not scientists so our experiment was really basic. However, for us the conclusion was very clear.

MOVE THE SERVERS OUT OF OCCIDENTAL NATIONS.

A.
No hosting in North America or Europe. (including the Netherlands)

B. Changed our business location's registration.

C. Refuse to do business with companies and individuals who obey these new rules/laws. (Not worth the risk)

good :D

Even the name "facial recognition" gives me shivers down my spine ngl. Whoever comes up with these terms is weird, to put it mildly...

privacy is a human right, so I'm not surprised...

yeah, that's an option... for now :)

Keep the political views out of this thread, please.

Distrust in everything Internet is growing. In the United States, Gen Z is pulling the plug and there's a mini analog revolution happening. VHS rental stores have returned

Here in Italy, I don't think we ever fully embraced the Internet. We're not even 'analog' we're pasta-log.

yeah, that's an option... for now :)

When they manage to take control of the entire Internet is when new work-arounds will explode.

Decentralized, off-grid networks are already growing in number. My partners and I are even investigating what our options are to transmit a 'pirate video' feed. I think it would be hilariously fun to operate a 'pirate porn TV station.'

I don't think there is any way out
It's now a global standard

Well first they spread the news about all the abuse of the childs now to protect the kids they need face verification/age verification for everyone. Is a huge scam to be honest is all about the control. The parents should protect the kids not the gov

When you can identify who is an adult then you can identify who is a child.

It's the same billionaires abusing kids who are the gatekeepers of the technology that will identify them. and... THIS IS THE REASON WHY THE PUBLIC IS NOW SUSPICIOUS OF US TOO

This is the business environment that we're now having to deal with. Ironically, the biggest business problem isn't these new stupid rules it's the people who comply with them. ---

What I don't understand is why anyone would intentionally comply with something that's going to kill their business?

Most real users value privacy, while scammers usually adapt faster than the restrictions anyway.

And the scammer adaptations only further add to the problem.

So we get a system in which the common person is required to scan their face and submit ID to use the Internet while the scammers get away with it through adaption.

The end result is the Internet gets a reputation of being both dystopian and a scam. At this point the Internet stops being viewed as a necessary "tool" and becomes an expense someone can live without.

And that's when people start unplugging.

It's always the same thing. normal users get affected the most while scammers and threat actors usually get around the restriction anyway.
So ironically, the bad people where the effect of this privacy breaking techniques would be harmed a lot, will instead be the most private person.

fear, greed, threats (upon their families), division (people have been purposely kept divided by race, religion, country, etc. so they can be manipulated and controlled easier)

People who comply with what the government imposes on them do it for one of these 4 reasons

Respectfully disagree

People who comply with stupid rules do so for any of the following reasons:

1. They're incapable of thinking for themselves

2. They're bootlickers and this is a way to feel "powerful"

3. They're virtue signalling and this makes them feel superior to others

Yup

This is a stepping stone to era where company have control over all your data.

Agreed
Scammers will find ways through facial recognition too
It's the normal users that suffer

yeah it usually kills conversion more than it helps
most legit users drop off at verification step
bad actors just find workarounds anyway so it becomes friction for normal people

I get protecting kids online but forcing face scans and ID checks just pushes normal people away while scammers still find their way back
