My 2026 Technical SEO Checklist – What I’m Doing After Latest Updates

Following up on my previous thread. Been in SEO since 2018 and wanted to share what I’m focusing on technically right now.


Current Technical SEO Checklist (2026):

• Proper schema + entity building
• Core Web Vitals + page experience optimization
• Content that targets AI Overviews + user intent
• Clean internal linking and topical clusters
• Monitoring for UCP / Helpful Content issues

I’m running this on 2-3 test sites and seeing good movement so far.


What’s the one technical change you made recently that gave the best results?Especially interested in things that help with AI search visibility.

One change that worked well for me recently was focusing more on entity optimization and smart internal linking rather than simply publishing more articles. I’ve also seen better performance from content written in a simple Q&A format with direct answers, which seems to help with AI Overview visibility. Building stronger topical authority, improving author trust signals, and adding reliable references helped rankings and indexing improve faster. Cleaning up thin or low value pages also made a noticeable impact on crawl efficiency and overall site quality.

I wouldn’t look at topical authority as only content clusters and internal links.

That works for low/medium niches, but in competitive niches you usually need external signals around the cluster too.

What I normally look at is:

main money page
supporting topical pages
internal links between them
brand/entity mentions
some authority links to the cluster
then tiered links to power up the supporting assets, not just the money page

A lot of people build 50 articles and wonder why nothing moves.

The content map is only one side.

You still need authority flowing into that section of the site, especially if the niche already has strong domains sitting there.

Classic silo still works IMO, but I’d mix it with entity style structure now.

Not just “keyword A links to keyword B.”

More like building a topical hub that Google and AI systems can understand as a real subject area.
