Hey everyone,

I recently built and launched a media downloading website on May 2nd. I’ve already optimized all the on-page SEO, and now I’m looking to transition into off-page link building.

Since I’m completely bootstrapping this project, I currently have a $0 budget for links. Once the site gets approved for AdSense and starts generating revenue, I plan to reinvest that into paid backlink campaigns.

So far, I’ve secured links on Product Hunt, GitHub, and SaaSHub, but as expected, these are mostly nofollow.

When analyzing my competitors in this niche, I noticed they are heavily relying on PBNs, Web 2.0 networks, and one even managed to score a backlink from MochaJS.

My questions:

\-What are the best strategies to build high-quality, do-follow backlinks in the media downloader niche without spending money?

\-Can you actually get Web 2.0, PBN, or open-source site links (like MochaJS) for free?

\-If I eventually have to buy these specific types of links down the road, what is a realistic price range I should expect?

web2.0 and pbn free = junk tier. won’t move needle unless scaled and that burns fast. better play is programmatic pages + seo bait content. lists, converters, embed tools. give ppl reason to link

With $0 budget, focus on linkable tools/pages, niche communities, GitHub visibility, and outreach to bloggers who already mention similar tools. Free Web 2.0s still exist, but most PBN/open-source placements worth having are usually paid or relationship-based.
