Why are my backlinks not helping my website rank better?

Hey everyone,
I am new to SEO and recently started building backlinks for my website. I thought this would help my rankings, but nothing has really changed.
I am not sure if I’m doing it the wrong way or if backlinks take more time to work. Do I need better quality links or just more patience?
Would really appreciate some simple advice.

You should evaluate the quality and relevance of your backlinks, and most importantly, the quality of your website’s content.
 
Not just backlinks can help with rankings, make sure your website and content are well optimized for the keywords. Also, build relevant and authoritative links rather than general ones; topical relevance matters more in current SEO.

sometimes backlinks are not enough if content or search intent is weak. i had pages with links but no ranking until i improved on-page SEO too.

sometimes backlinks are ow quality, irrelevant or too spammy, so google just ignore them. I also seen sites with many backlinks but weak content or poor internal SEO, so links alone do not help rankings much.
 
I don't think you waited any time and is normal to not be results instant once the links are created you need to have some patience, check also your onpage if is ok before
 
Usually backlinks takes weeks or even months to impact rankings and few relevant quality links combined with strong content which works better than many low quality backlinks.
