My portfolio is around the same size, approaching 600 now

Mixture of hand regs, expireds, and auctions

To me the dream business would be living off of 100% inbound sales and doing nothing else except buying domains, which is the fun part. It seems like a volume game to me and the more lines in the sea there are the more chance someone comes to bite.

I'm looking for whales. But you need the right bait to catch the whales. A $2,000 BIN price won't do it. That's why I push everything to an inquiry lander so I can high ball them and then work down from there. That is the only way to max them out on price.

My job as I see it is to get the highest price for every domain I buy and then buy more domains. Repeat until the portfolio generates passive 5+ figures monthly from inbound sales. That's the plan.

Interesting !

Would you mind sharing some stats like yearly STR and some sales numbers?

I started domaining a year ago with a unique outbounding strategy that makes me a decent amount but nothing crazy. For the first year I was just using the money for living expenses and occassional hand regs. Then a few months ago it hit me that in order to scale this shit into something worthy I need an inbound strategy too which means buying as many domains as possible as fast as I can. That's when I started to buy domains purely for inbound with the money I had coming in from outbound.

As I said it's only been 2-3 months since I started buying domains like this so I haven't actually had an inbound sale from these domains yet. I think half of my domains are from the last month alone. Until now I've only had inquiries where I high ball the shit out of them and wait for a counter offer. I did have 1 inbound sale last year when I parked a domain I bought for outbound but couldn't sell it and someone else came through and bought it. But back then I didn't know any better so I had a $300 BIN on it and gave it away too cheap.

It did open my eyes though to the beauty of inbound sales. Now I'm just trying to build the portfolio as quickly as I can with the cash flow I have available. If the portfolio can make a minimum of 2x the renewal costs from inbound then I will simply keep buying domains. I also plan on dropping alot of shit that doesn't get inquiries unless I know for sure it's a good one. Right now I'm sort of using a shotgun approach in the sense that I'm throwing alot of shit at the wall to see what sells this year and use that data to refine my buying strategy.

Every domain I get is just another line in the sea. Fishing for whales. I believe the higher the sales prices the better the math will work.

Very interesting. Good luck! Would you mind telling me if you use a specific landing page in the afternoon or do you like to put everything on your own landing page?

Also, very curious about your outbound strategy. Would you mind sharing a bit more about that? . I would understand if you wouldn't, because that's quite an edge and a competitive advantage.

a specific landing page in the afternoon? I think that's a typo but not sure what you mean. All of my domains are on my own landers because I want control of everything. I want control of my leads, negotiations, customers, and sales funnel.

If you have a $2,000 BIN on an afternic lander for example and someone buys, how do you know they wouldn't have paid $20k for the domain? The value of a domain name is subjective. You just threw away $18k. That extra margin could make or break your business model.

Also, visits to a domain doesn't mean anything if they don't inquire. You can't judge how likely a domain is to sell simply by the number of visits it gets. Inquiries is a much better statistic.

Unfortunately I can't divulge any info about my outbound strategy but the thing I like about domaining is there really is a lot of different ways to go about it. I'm still coming up with new angles that I need to test out.

Also another note about the outbounding v.s. inbounding.

Outbounding for domains is fucking rough. A lot of B.S. you have to deal with. A LOT of ghosting. I was (and still am) shocked by the amount of ghosting that I deal with. People telling you they want a domain for a certain price and then crickets when you send them the buy link. This happens the majority of the time I would say for sure. I would imagine this happens MUCH less with inbound and the negotiations are probably so much easier. They came to you!

My ultimate goal is to be able to live off of inbound alone since that is pretty much all passive except the buying part but I consider that the fun part. But in order to live off inbound I need VOLUME.

Been getting ghosted left and right lately with my outbound efforts. We actually agree on a price and then they ghost when I send them the buy link or they email me back with some excuse why they can't buy. Usually there's some sales mixed in but not lately. This is extremely rough but unfortunately I cannot sit around and wait for sales to come in at my current portfolio size. Hopefully one day.

You guys are becoming experts.
But I believe unless you get the right domain premium 4-5 letter .com domain and unless it is not in front of right people or big buyer. It is a waste of money. Having in big quantity alot of domains.

What a great journey, Are you still just parking them, or have you started using ads or other marketing to reach clients?
