I am too tired, my heart is already exhausted. Finding an SEO job in China is a joke. Here, you basically need to understand advertising, Facebook advertising Photoshop、 Video editing and SEO require knowledge of Alibaba Cloud International and Amazon operations. However, with these skills and a salary of 3500RMB (calculated at $600), I am on the verge of collapse. I even made many cases to show to the human resources department, but they basically didn't look at them

I feel like China hardly look at SEO seriously and even if you are great, the bosses often require a team before really making an effort on SEO. Many bosses in China really, really LOVES Facebook ADS, I don't know why. I feel you should try to find client online rather than relying on normal SEO job in china...

Yes, I can't open the recruitment app anymore. I have psychological problems and feel anxious, irritable, and even suicidal when I try to open it. I need to identify a picture to calm myself down
In our country, as long as you can make money, you come to work to earn money for me. I have started preparing to make a domestic version of TK and will try to get some clients and earn some extra money to live. Thank you for your concern!

The demand just isn't there. Only multinational corporations really need SEO, since Google is blocked in China and Baidu's reputation is trashed due to their pay-for-placement ads. And for those MNCs, why would they bother hiring SEOs in a country where the SEO industry is so underdeveloped?

Most so-called 'SEO' jobs in China are a total sham. They're actually just hiring people to write ghost posts for Xiaohongshu or handle general internet promotion; it has almost nothing to do with actual Search Engines.

It might help to focus on roles or clients outside your local market where SEO alone is valued more clearly and paid better. Also, consider packaging your case studies into a simple portfolio and targeting remote opportunities where results matter more than mixed skill requirements.

It sounds like you’re dealing with an unfair job market, and anyone would feel exhausted in that situation. Many companies want one person to handle SEO, ads, design, and operations but pay far below what those skills are worth. Your frustration is valid, and it doesn’t mean you lack ability; it means the market is broken. Keep building your portfolio and skills, but don’t let these low-value offers determine your worth.

That's rough. I've never been to China outside of a holiday so I can't say I know much about the whole SEO sphere there, but your experience is quite telling.
It's a bit competitive, but you should probably consider working remotely if you want to stick to SEO or related opportunities. That or luck into one of the bigger companies there who happen to need someone with your expertise and also know what it's for.

The skill expectations in digital marketing have become kind of unrealistic lately, SEO alone already takes years to learn properly

yeah i have also seen people who are in China and doesn't modern jobs like SEO, Web development and others

That’s brutal. Companies expecting one person to handle SEO, ads, design, video, and ecom for that pay is completely unrealistic. Your skills and case studies still have value — the market is the problem, not your effort.

The job market can be overwhelming when companies expect one person to cover several professional roles while offering minimal compensation. That kind of pressure would exhaust anyone. Your abilities are not the problem — the real issue is that many businesses underestimate the value of experienced digital professionals. Stay focused on growing your skills, showcasing your best work, and applying for opportunities where your knowledge and effort are genuinely appreciated.

Haven't seen AI mentioned in this thread yet?

You tried AI to help you with the job mkt? Deepseek is Chinese IIRC. Maybe asking it for options could give you ideas.

Maybe you could try working with international clients, who will pay you more? These are just my thoughts on the topic.

In reality, working in SEO is something that can only truly be proven through actual websites.
People are usually judged on whether they are good or bad at SEO based on the real results they can show.
That is probably why it is difficult to find work in the SEO industry, isn’t it?

Such is the case in other countries as well. We should upgrade our skills into AI besides SEO.

That sounds genuinely exhausting — being skilled, prepared, and still not getting recognized is demoralizing. The problem isn't your ability, it's the market expecting everything for almost nothing. Keep your skills sharp and consider showcasing your work on LinkedIn or freelancing internationally . your SEO knowledge is worth far more than $600/month outside China.

Just thinking about the market of a billion people scares me, because instead of competing with 1 million people, you have to compete with 10 million people, which is terrifying.

Expecting all those skills for 3500 RMB is absolute exploitation, so it's no wonder you are feeling completely burnt out. If you have solid cases and know English SEO, stop dealing with local HR and move over to international freelancing platforms or US/EU agency outreach. You can easily make way more money working remotely as a specialist rather than being a one-man digital marketing department for local companies.
