[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

I get a lot of emails. Mostly spam emails. But also sometimes serious inquiries. Right now I got an email from Google, someone wants to make a blog post about my app link from the Google blog. SEO wise this is amazing. Before this already to other websites and blogs reached out to me with DR 90+ websites (huge brands in my niche).

Once you got traction and momentum, it is like an upward spiral. These backlinks will bring me better rankings, more traffic and therefore more downloads, which will make the app even more popular then and bring in even more inquiries from huge brands.

Both slideshows and AI videos. I am doing a mix of it. Slideshows I usually autopost directly. AI videos I push to draft and manually review them (some of them are slop).

Btw. the best model right now is probably Seedance 2.0. There is a way to make really, really good TikTok videos, but it includes making different cuts, image to video, etc. but you can basically make videos that are indistinguishable from real videos

yes, this crap can really happen. they will put your account under investigation. its super hard to defend yourself against this. in fact, this has happened to me some time ago. suddenly I found out I got 400 ratings from Vietnam within a month. Almost all 5 stars. Now why the fuck would I want to buy vietnamese 5 star ratings? Someone from Apple sent me an email saying my account is under investigation because of developer guidelines ToS, etc. (not sure if I posted about this) and I had to explain to them I have no idea what happened and I didnt do anything like this. They never replied back to me. The worst thing is if they excuse you and you just say "no idea what you are talking about" they will probably think its an excuse or you are trying to fool them

Sounds strange this works.
How do you increase app store ranking with Ads for specific keywords? I think you send them to the app store via link and this way there would be a direct access and download. Like this no keywords are involved so how to rank them with Ads? Do the direct installs just boost general ranking/all keywords automatically?

Yes, I think Apple pushed an update last year where keyword installs are not that important anymore.

Most important ranking factors seem to be:

- Download amount + velocity
- Rating amount + velocity

Direct downloads in one specific country increase the rankings for all keywords. However, if you do not keep the download numbers up, you might lose the rankings.

Thats why organic traffic is so important and should be the number one source of downloads. Spending $500 every day for ads can only be done by backed companies or if you are from Turkey (no acquistion costs for them, they get it back from their government!)

Do you cover this in the new ebook? Creating the app using AI etc I can do but stuff like this is where the value is for me.

How do you set-up multiple developer accounts? Do you create different business entities?
What is the reason you diversify instead of putting multiple apps onto one account? I would think that one strong account with a long history is less likely to go down than a fresh one.

For Apple its almost impossible to make multiple accounts. You can have a personal account and then also a company account. Yes, you could create multiple business entities and create an Apple Developer account for each.

For Google Play its much easier to create multiple accounts. Or at least it used to be. Just once you get banned / terminated you will face a lot of problems because they might terminate all of your other (+ future) accounts. Same for Apple.

Before I also used to make apps in some greyhat niches which were not fully at risk for getting suspended, but there was a certain risk. Now I just focus on ONE account for Apple and Google Play and my apps are fully whitehat and within the guidelines.

Generally speaking, I have been doing IM for 13 years (basically since I signed up here) and it has made me a shit ton of money, but the problem with blackhat niches was always churn and burn. You would earn a lot of money, but it could go to 0 from one day to another. It wasnt sustainable at all. I remember getting hit with a Google update and all my rankings went from 1# to 100#. Earnings dropped from $400 per day to $5. Its not a good feeling to wake and see this shit knowing you have to rebuild it all hoping to rank again.

Building something sustainable and whitehat is much better, also if it makes you stable money, you can just sell it for 24-48x. But legitimately selling blackhat business is almost impossible.

My first app for iOS released xD
Agree with white hat. Problem with blackhat is regular, one month you earn $10 000, 3 next months you earn $0

Yes and for whitehat its opposite. You can earn for a few months and then just sell it for 2-4x

Congratulations @nakamura for all you have achieved in this journey. You remind me of an interesting university speech by Allen Wong who also made millions building apps from scratch years ago. He was pretty open and honest with how he did it. If you (or anyone else) has time, you should check it out.:)

Hey, I was wondering if you used any services so you can have phones on the cloud which helps you post when you're doing your tiktok marketing. Also, how many tiktok accounts do you have for each app that you create organic content for?

There are several ways:

- Buy an iPhone, make an US Apple ID, try to get a US sim card, use a 4g mobile proxy to sign up on TikTok
- Get a VPS, buy US based TikTok accounts, do automation

How about Meta Ads?
won't tiktok ban accounts running from a vps?

good question, probably yes, need to try it

Someone just told me, that it is usually a scam, and there's pretty good chance that the account is not US based, but Middle East based.
as long as it works and it targets the US location, i dont really care who created these accounts.

i could create the accounts myself but its time consuming and its hard to scale (i cant create 100 accounts)

hey i've been trying to promote my app on tiktok, i've not really seen much traffic coming my way, I wonder if its because I haven't gone past 700 views and also it seems a bit long for a viewer to read your link and manually input it on to another app. Have you experienced this? Are the early stages of an app, would you recommend using some adverts or just tiktok?

It's not about who created them, but where the account was created and what was a geolocation of the account. Tiktok might assign the original location to the account. But if it works for you then great.

making these videos can be tricky depending on your niche. you need to include your app screen, app logo and app name in the video. most people will not go to your profile and click a link. they wont copy paste a link either. they will search for your app name on the app store. thats why you need a brand name and a logo that differentiates you from others.

Does relying only on ASO work with so much competition now?
