My Journey: Selling Guest Posts to Earn My First $500 Online

I’ve been avoiding guest posts thinking they’re complicated, seeing your journey is inspiring.
I totally get that — guest posts can seem complicated at first. I’m keeping things simple by starting small and focusing on consistent placements. Glad to hear my journey is inspiring for you!

Hey BHW ,

I’ve been exploring SEO and digital marketing for a while now, but instead of offering many services, I decided to focus only on Guest Posts. This thread is to keep myself accountable and also share my progress with the community.

My Goal

  • Earn my first $500 online through guest post sales
  • Build trust + long-term clients here on BHW

My Plan

  • Provide guest post placements on real websites (with traffic & authority, not PBNs)
  • Start by offering 2–3 free/review copies to active/Jr VIP members for feedback
  • Post weekly updatesabout:
    • Guest posts placed
    • Clients reached
    • What strategies worked (and didn’t)

Why I’m Sharing This Journey

  • To stay motivated and accountable
  • To learn from the community’s feedback
  • To attract people who may need guest posts

Current Status

  • Preparing a small list of sites in niches like Business, Tech, Lifestyle (more to come)
  • Creating outreach messages to find first few buyers
  • Will share initial results + feedback in my next update

Update Schedule

I’ll update this thread every Sunday with my progress until I hit the $500 milestone.

Wish me luck ✌️

Hey BHW,

As promised, here’s my first update on the journey

  • ✅ Reached out to 25 website owners in niches like Tech, Business, and Lifestyle.
  • ✅ Got 7 positive responses.
  • ✅ Placed 2 guest posts so far (both on sites with DR 40+ and real traffic around 5k–8k/month).
  • ✅ Still in talks with 3 more site owners for possible placements next week.

Challenges faced:

  • Some site owners asked for higher prices than expected.
  • A few sites looked good on the surface but turned out to have spammy link profiles, so I avoided them.

Next steps:

  • Continue outreach with a bigger list of sites.
  • Try to secure at least 3 more placements before next Sunday.
  • Start offering free/review copies to a few members here for feedback.

Really motivated by the process so far and learning a lot each day. Thanks to everyone following along

Will share more results in the next update!

Did you pay those site owners for guest post?
Hey, good question!
Yes — most placements are paid because the sites I reach out to usually charge a small editorial or placement fee. I make sure to choose sites that have real traffic and genuine content, not cheap link farms or PBNs.

I also test a few free opportunities when possible, but the paid ones tend to perform better in terms of authority and indexing.

Hey everyone,

It’s been a week since my last update, and things are moving forward nicely.

Progress:

Reached out to 20 new websites this week (focused more on business and lifestyle niches).

Got 5 new positive replies and managed to confirm 2 more placements.

One of my previous posts went live and got indexed within 3 days, which felt great!

What I learned:

Personalized subject lines and short intro messages seem to get better responses.

A few webmasters took longer to reply — patience really matters in outreach.

I also started tracking replies and placements using a simple Google Sheet for better organization.

Next Steps:

Plan to contact 25 new sites next week.

Try to close at least 3 confirmed placements before my next update.

Continue testing different message templates to see which one gets the highest response rate.

Overall, I’m happy with the steady progress — small wins every week make a big difference

Thanks to everyone who’s been following and supporting my journey!

Curious you find the sites to outreach to? What the process looks like?

Nice plan! Staying focused on one service is smart. Good luck on hitting that $500 goal!

I have a tip for you; make everything on track through Google Sheet from the start, it'll help you in future. good luck

Hey, appreciate the question!
Right now, my process is pretty simple — I start by identifying niche-relevant sites with real organic traffic (using Ahrefs or SimilarWeb). Then I:

Check that the site publishes fresh content and accepts external contributions.

Reach out directly to the editor or contact email with a personalized pitch.

Focus on building long-term connections instead of one-time links.

It takes time, but this approach helps me land placements that actually bring SEO value.
I’ll share more details about my outreach templates and response rates in my next update.

That’s a great tip, thanks!
I actually started setting up a Google Sheet to track outreach, responses, and placements — makes things much easier to manage. Appreciate the advice!

Looking forward to your next update and seeing what you say to them.

Did you manage to get clients? You mentioned you got 2 placements already was this for a client?

Also do you use a free gmail with this and it works?

Another question because I'm new to backlinks,if you got a client a placement on one of the sites you have what stops the client to go behind your back to buy the backlink direct and cut you off as the middle man? Appreciate the input :)

Thanks a lot I agree, upgrading the account definitely adds more credibility here. Right now, I’ll first focus on building some results and reaching my $500 goal, and then I’ll look into upgrading for sure.
You can't sell anything here unless you first upgrade, so take note.

Focusing on business/tech/lifestyle niches seems smart for guest posts. Are you going to specialise in one or test all three initially?

Hey, great question!
Right now, I’m testing all three niches — business, tech, and lifestyle — just to see where I get the best response rates and ROI.
Once I have enough data, I’ll probably niche down and focus on the one that performs best.

Good luck with your goals but the fact is you will make much money selling on bhw alone. There is a good damand for guest post over here
