Have you guys noticed a strange pattern?

A lot of highly successful people seem to watch anime. I’ve seen this especially among entrepreneurs, programmers, traders, ecom guys, and people deep into online business.

At first I thought it was random, but the more successful people I meet online, the more often I notice anime comes up somewhere in the conversation.

My personal theory is that anime often focuses on:

  • discipline
  • self-improvement
  • long-term goals
  • overcoming struggles
  • ambition
  • obsession with mastery
A lot of main characters start from nothing and slowly build themselves up through consistency and hard work. Maybe people who are naturally ambitious connect with that mindset.

Another thing is that many people in tech/business spend a lot of time alone working on computers, and anime became part of internet culture long before it became mainstream.

Or maybe I’m completely overthinking this.

What do you guys think? Have you noticed this too or is it just coincidence?

Because successful people never stopped being kids. They just learned to hide it during meetings.

So all successful people watch The Godfather then? Besides, the things many people do aren't really a parameter of success anyway.
Maybe you’re right, but this is just my personal observation, so I decided to share it.

Yes.

I know successful people who never watch anime at all, or never play golf, or never go hiking, or never drink coffee.

If you microanalyze everything 'sucessful' people do, you'll never learn what works for yourself.

I'd say it's reading too much into it.
There could always been some overlap since anime's been part of internet culture even waaay back, but I don't think it's a deep correlation.
Also, there's something to be said about relating to successful people and the whole "they're just like me fr."
But yeah, there's a pattern but you could probably make the same argument if you replaced anime with podcasts, gaming, gym culture, and etc.
That said, a lot of anime does revolve around discipline, progression, and mastery, so it makes sense that ambitious people would resonate with it. Plus at this point, I'm sure quite a lot of people who make it likely grew up with some exposure to them and it adds that fans aren't as ostracised these days compared to back in my day.

I think you've got it inverted - I believe that watching anime develops qualities within people that increases their chances of successes, e.g. believing in yourself, discipline, never giving up.

At this point, anime might be a hidden ranking factor for success
One minute they’re watching anime, next minute they’re launching startups, trading crypto, and scaling businesses online.

probably mix of motivation and thinking bigger than traditional TV allows

helps expand your imagination to what's possible

Successful people d have normal routine like others.
They can behave the way others do.
They can watch anime too.
However, they watch it to get some fresh time, losers watch it to waste their time.
