Lately, the best ROI for me has come from contextual backlinks placed on real niche-relevant websites rather than mass low-quality links. A few strong links from sites with genuine traffic usually outperform hundreds of weak backlinks.

Some backlink types that still work very well:

  • Guest posts on relevant websites
  • Niche edits/contextual links
  • Digital PR mentions
  • Homepage/sidebar placements from trusted sites
  • Quality forum/community links for diversity
Guest posting is still worth the effort in my opinion, but only when the website is legitimate and has real organic presence. A lot of “guest post sites” today are basically link farms, so quality matters much more than quantity.

When evaluating a potential linking partner, I usually check:

  • Organic traffic trends
  • Niche relevance
  • Indexed pages
  • Outbound link quality
  • Spam signals
  • Ranking stability over time
I also don’t rely only on Domain Authority because DA can be manipulated quite easily. A relevant DR40 site with real traffic can often provide more value than a DR80 site built mainly for selling links.

White-hat link building has shifted from a game of "volume" to a game of "citation authority." Because search engines and AI Overviews now prioritize Information Gain, a link is only as valuable as the unique data or perspective it points to.

Best ROI lately = relevant sites with real traffic, not just high DR. Good guest posts are still worth it if the site has an actual audience. I check traffic trends, indexed pages, topical relevance, and outbound link quality before DA/DR.

The best backlinks in my opinion are high quality guest posts from authoritative websites/blogs related to your niche.

Guest posting is still a thing, but you gotta be picky. focus on sites that genuinely serve your niche and have decent engagement, not just high DA scores. i've been seeing better returns from outreach on relevant resource pages lately

But you'll be emailing your arse off for maybe 1 of those at best. Meanwhile PBNs seem to be killing it and parasites with spam backlinks are still being (ab)used in all sorts of niches.
 
for evaluating domains check traffic in Ahrefs or Semrush first before even looking at DA since a lot of high DA sites are basically dead.
 
For me, Niche relevant guest posts have given the best ROI, especially from the Traffic websites.

ChatGPT has never ranked a site. It has no practical knowledge of the subject. It's just telling you what it's been trained on.
 
I'd say the biggest change is that links are no longer carrying weak content the way they did a few years ago.
 
for me, creating link-worthy content and building relationships with trusted niche blogs for guest posting is the ultimate strategy this year. Digital PR also works wonders if you can land a solid news mention

The best link are the once that send both authority and actual visitors. A high DA no guarantee
 
For me, niche relevance + real organic traffic matter much more than DA. Guest posting is still worth it if the website has genuine authority and isn't just a link farm. I always look at traffic, backlink quality, indexing, and outbound links before considering a placement.
