Hi everybody, I’ve been running TikTok for two different brands (one DTC supplement, one streetwear) for the past year and I’m finally at the point where I feel like I kinda know what the fuck I’m doing.

So here’s the messy, real version from someone who’s burned $80k+ on ads and learned the hard way.

Organic side first:

The algorithm still loves new accounts more than old ones. My streetwear page that I started from zero in February is at 340k followers already. The supplement page I’ve had since 2023? Struggling to hit consistent 500k views.

Biggest lesson: Post ugly. Like actually ugly. The videos that are performing best for me right now are the ones that look like my buddy filmed them on an iPhone 11 while half drunk. Perfect lighting, clean edits, and professional voiceovers are getting cooked.

Hook in first 1-2 seconds is still king. I literally test 8-10 different hooks for every concept now. "I wish someone told me this before I turned 30” type shit still prints, but you gotta actually deliver in the video or retention dies.

Trending audio is dead for most niches unless you’re doing the exact right twist on it. I’ve been having better luck creating my own sounds lately.

Paid ads (this is where the real money is):

TikTok ads in 2026 are fucking brutal but when it works it works stupidly well. My ROAS on the supplement brand has been sitting at 5-6x for the last 60 days.

What’s working:

Spark Ads from organic videos that already have 300k+ views. These destroy everything else right now.
UGC style creatives shot on phone (again, make them look real). My best performing ad right now is some dude in his messy apartment complaining about his energy levels then showing the product. Costs me like $0.18 per click.
Advantage+ shopping campaigns if you have a decent product catalog. Set it and kinda forget it (but still babysit the creative).
Interest targeting is basically useless now. Use lookalikes + retargeting warm audiences.
Biggest mistake I see people making is using the same creative for 7+ days. The platform punishes you hard. I retire creatives after 3-4 days max now even if they’re still profitable.

Also, don’t sleep on the “Series” format for lead gen. I’m collecting emails at like $0.80 cost right now which is insane for my niche.

Anyone else seeing the same stuff? Especially curious what’s working for you in the beauty/gaming/food niches because those seem completely different from ecom.

Will drop some actual ad examples and numbers if this thread doesn’t get buried.

TL;DR: Look like a real person > look professional. Kill creatives fast. Spark Ads from winners. Test 10 hooks minimum. The platform rewards speed and authenticity more than ever in 2026.

What works in TikTok marketing today is content that grabs attention in the first few seconds, is simple and real, and compels you to watch until the end. Consistency and a clear niche are also very important because the algorithm pushes creators who provide value regularly.

I don't know man , tik tok is not easy to handle nowadays

Do you repeat the hook that worked consistently? How do you manage hook rotation among your winning videos?
