Hi everyone,

My site suddenly started showing:

Proxy Error
Error during SSL Handshake with remote server

and sometimes also:

500 Internal Server Error

Today my hosting provider emailed me saying they were performing a scheduled infrastructure/server migration, but due to network issues the migration was postponed and continued today between 05:00–10:00 CET.

At first the site worked on some devices/browsers but not on others. Now it doesn’t seem to work anywhere.

For people who’ve experienced similar migrations before:

  • Is this kind of SSL/proxy behavior normal and temporary during migration/propagation?
  • Or is this usually a sign that something went seriously wrong and needs urgent intervention?

I’d really appreciate any insight.

Thanks!

What you described sounds more like temporary infrastructure inconsistency than a catastrophic failure.
Different devices seeing different behavior is usually a strong sign of propagation/cache mismatch during migration.

Sounds like the servers are half awake after the move, which happens more often than hosts admit. I usually give it a bit of breathing room and clear DNS on my devices just so I'm not stuck with old data. If the errors keep popping up after things should have settled, grabbing the host's support again is worth it so they can fix whatever got bumped during the migration.
