Client asked me after 3 weeks: “Why am I not ranking yet?”

Meanwhile:

  • 2 new articles published
  • 3 backlinks built
  • Pages just got indexed
That’s not SEO failing… that’s just time doing its job.

We’ve been spoiled by instant results everywhere, but SEO still runs on patience + consistency.

The funny part? The same people who quit at month 2 are the ones who would’ve ranked at month 4. :)

Are your clients patient, or do they expect results overnight?

this is very common. Many clients expect quick results, but seo takes time to build momentum. Once they understand it’s a long-term process, expectations usually become more realistic.
 
This is the biggest hurdle when working with clients who are new to organic growth. They often compare SEO to PPC where you can see traffic the same day you turn on the ads. Ive found that setting the expectation for a 3-6 months period right from the start helps, but you still get those why not yet? emails at week three. Its definitely a test of patience as much as it is a technical job.
 
You didn't set expectations.

When I used to do SEO for larger clients I always had 9 months roadmaps with quarter estimates.

Everything outside of that are shortcuts that will not work on larger brands.

The masses can't sit down for 5 mins without doomscrolling.

How do you expect them to wait 10 years to achieve their dreams?
 
If your site isn't optimized and you have low quality content, 3 weeks could be never.
 
Man, I feel your pain. Most clients think SEO is like a light switch they can just flip on, but it's really more like growing a tree. If they can’t handle the waiting game during those first few months, they usually end up wasting their budget by quitting right before the traction starts. :cool:

That's a good way to use AI, I guess - to just get the ball rolling and then put your own spin on things. It can be pretty helpful for getting ideas down on paper, and then you can make it sound more like you afterwards :) .

But you're 100% right about the patience issue extending beyond SEO. Everything's become "I want it now" culture. People expect overnight success in business, fitness, relationships, everything.

The irony? The people who actually succeed are the ones willing to grind for years while everyone else gives up at month 2.

Patience is becoming a competitive advantage because so few people have it anymore.
 
SEO is not magic, its momentum. In 3 weeks,We have already publish content,built backlinks and got pages indexed.That is progress not failure. the brands stay consistent are usually the ones celebrating
rankings a few months later.

True, clients want organic growth with instant results. We are seo experts, not magician.

You have to understand that some clients come from totally different industries that they don't know anything about SEO. And another thing is the promises that have been made to them.


Pair those two together and you'd get clients that want results instantly.

how can we fix it
 
yeah most clients want SEO results at ad speed lol. the good ones understand that indexing, content, backlinks and trust all take time to build up. sometimes i speed things up with diverse backlinks and stronger internal linking, but even then, month 1 is usually just groundwork. funniest part is people quit right before rankings start moving.
