Hey guys,

I’ve built around 50+ backlinks for my site but still not seeing any ranking improvement.

Here’s what I’ve tried:
- Profile backlinks
- Web 2.0 backlinks
- Social bookmarking

But keywords are still stuck beyond page 5.

My goal:
Rank on page 1 for low competition keywords

Am I doing something wrong?
Any suggestions would really help

Those links pass little value Focus on better content a few real niche backlinks.

Backlinks alone are not enough that's why rankings aren't coming. Low quality or spammy backlinks
Content is weak or does not match user intent

it's hard to say without knowing the status of your site (niche + keyword research, site structuring, content quality and optimization, technical SEO, topical authority, internal linking, etc...)

Backlinks - while still needed - are one of the last pieces of the puzzle, so you need to nail down everything else before building links...

Also, those backlinks used to be good 15 years ago, nowadays they don't do shit anymore, so no surprise you're not ranking (and that's assuming that you've done everything else right first, like I said)....

Those types of links only don't rank pages anymore, not even the low hanging fruits you mentioned.

In most cases, if you push those links much at once, you page would be deranked.

those links you built are mostly low quality so they dont move rankings much, try getting few strong niche relevant backlinks and improve content quality to see real results

You Are using low quality backlinks that dont impact rankings Focus on better content strong on page SEO relevant high quality backlinks and proper internal linking Also check indexing speed and keyword targeting

Yeah, the issue is the type of links.

profiles, web 2.0, bookmarks don’t move rankings much anymore.

They’re easy to get, so Google doesn’t value them.

Those links are pretty weak tbh, most of them don’t move rankings anymore.

You need a few quality contextual backlinks (real sites, niche relevant), not just volume.

Also check your on-page + content. Even low comp keywords won’t rank if the page isn’t strong or matching intent.

50 links sounds good, but if they’re all low quality, Google just ignores them.

It also depends on your niche, keywords and targeted GEO.

you have added 50 backlinks only which is nothing and those 50 are profile, web 2.0 and bookmarks. these kind of backlinks are mostly cheap and spammy that cannot rank you on top pages.

Don't give up, be consistent with the link building and get backlinks only from non spammy, high DA DR sites. don't go after quantity, go after the quality because that will make it ranked. try to do some on page SEO also except only link building.

You need,
Authority, trust score, link juice and a good website's structure to get you it ranked

You are focusing on "quantity" over "quality." Profile and bookmarking links are low-authority signals that rarely move the needle in 2026. Switch your strategy to high-quality guest posts or niche-relevant PBNs to see a real push toward page one.

Most backlinks are not worth a grain of salt these days. I have seen that Google ignores most of them if they lack certain properties.

Hello,
I need a few more details to give you a proper answer.
But the key word is patience.
Backlinks are good, but they aren’t everything.
Your articles need to be high-quality: a sufficient word count, content that answers the questions people are asking, etc.
It all depends on the niche, too. If you’re in a saturated niche and you don’t offer anything unique, you’ll get lost in the crowd.
You might also need to work on your keywords using a silo approach. Don’t try to rank for a highly competitive keyword; instead, target one where you’re the only one—or almost the only one—competing.
Keep in mind that with fewer than 100 high-quality articles, SEO becomes complicated.
And as everyone says: backlinks need to be high-quality.
On one of my sites, I don't have many backlinks. Except that one of them is Wikipedia... Obviously, that helps :D
(And no, I didn't ask to be on Wikipedia)

The links you are building are useless these days.

Try link insertion or Guest post to get better ranking.

From what I’ve seen, those types of links don’t move rankings much anymore, especially on their own. Content quality and keyword targeting usually matter more at that stage. You might need a few relevant, higher-quality links instead of just more volume. Are your pages fully matching search intent for those keywords?

It's one of the biggest frustrations, but it happens more often than you think, the main reason is that links aren't a magic formula with immediate cause and effect, google needs time to discover these new links, reassess your site's authority, and decide if they're truly worthwhile, it can take weeks or even months from when you acquire a good link until you see a movement in your rankings. It's not that it's not working, it's just that the process isn't finished yet.

Another very common possibility is that your links are of low quality, even if they look good at first glance, a link from the homepage of a site with real traffic is not the same as a link buried on a blog page with no visits, the context surrounding the link also matters a great deal, if it comes from an article on your same topic, it's worth much more than if it's in a friends list on an unrelated site, google today understands very well whether a link is genuine or if it seems like a transaction to manipulate search results.

Honestly, it's not just about the number of backlinks those types you built don't carry much weight. If your content isn't matching what people are searching for, rankings won't move. Focus on better content, proper on-page SEO, and a few strong, relevant links instead. Also check issues in Google Search Console and track progress in Google Analytics.

Building links without auditing the actual content first is a common trap. If you're pointing links to pages that are just generic AI fluff and don't provide genuine, human-focused value to the reader, Google's recent updates will simply ignore those links, no matter how many you build.

Also, you have to take a hard look at the quality of the links you just built. Are they real editorial placements acquired through manual outreach on sites with actual traffic? Or are they just cheap PBNs or directory drops?

Right now, 5 highly relevant, manually acquired editorial links will always outperform 500 low-tier links. Focus on content value first, then hit it with strict quality outreach.

Profile, Web 2.0, and bookmarking links are mostly ignored or heavily discounted by search engines now.
Without strong content and a few quality, relevant backlinks, it’s very hard to move rankings even for low competition terms.

Yeah the problem is the type of links. Profile, Web 2.0, and bookmarks barely move rankings now. Focus on better content + a few relevant, higher-quality backlinks. Quality > quantity.
