I'm seeing product pages on my clothing site drop in rankings after a recent crawl how do I diagnose whether it's caused by canonical tag issues, faceted navigation creating index bloat, duplicate content from filters, missing or incorrect schema, or slow loading large images, and which exact GSC, Screaming Frog, and PageSpeed metrics should I check first?

Start with Google Search Console to check coverage, indexing errors, and canonical issues. Use Screaming Frog SEO Spider to find duplicates and tags. Then test speed and images with Google Page Speed Insights for loading problems.

Start with Google Search Console and check Pages/Indexing for errors like Duplicate without a user-selected canonical,
Google chose a different canonical, crawled currently not indexed, and sudden increases in indexed filter/parameter URLs. In Performance, compare affected product pages before and after the crawl for drops in clicks, impressions, and positions.

Then use Screaming Frog to audit missing/wrong canonicals, duplicate titles/meta, indexable faceted URLs, thin or duplicate filtered pages, broken Product schema, and oversized images.

Finally, run key pages in PageSpeed Insights and review LCP, INP, CLS, TTFB, and image optimization issues. Most clothing ranking drops after crawls are caused by incorrect canonicals, filter pages that create index bloat/duplicate content, or slow, large product images that hurt page experience.

Start with Google Search Console check the Pages report for canonical issues and “crawled but not indexed,” then confirm Google’s chosen canonical via URL Inspection.
Next, crawl your site in Screaming Frog SEO Spider to find duplicate URLs, faceted parameter pages, and canonical/noindex conflicts. Review filtered URLs (?size=, ?color=) to ensure they either point to the main product via canonical or are set to noindex to avoid index bloat. Finally, test product pages in PageSpeed Insight focus on LCP (large images), INP, and blocking scripts.

Try to check:
  • Crawl/index > are wrong URLs getting indexed (filters, duplicates)?
  • Canonica l> pointing to the right pages or not
  • Speed > big images slowing pages

Start with GSC to identify which URLs lost impressions, then check canonical consistency and parameterized pages in Screaming Frog. PageSpeed can confirm if image heavy product pages are slowing crawl and rankings.

You should check by google search console for coverage issue duplicate without user selected canonical , and any spike in excluded or non-indexed URLs. In screaming frog, review canonical tags duplicated pages created by filters navigation, and compare affected product URLs with pages still rank well.

Start with GSC pages report and look for sudden indexing changes or canonical selected by Google mismatch. Then in Screaming Frog check canonicals + duplicate titles + parameter URLs from filters. PageSpeed only matters if LCP or CLS spiked hard after that crawl.

check signals in order. gsc first for indexing + impressions drop, then screamingfrog for canonicals and faceted urls, then pagespeed for load issues. biggest mistake is chasing everything at once instead of isolating one cause
