Are blog traffic numbers way down?

Pinterest and TikTok grab quick answers now, so people click less on long articles. I usually double check Ahrefs against Similarweb's actual visitor estimates. If both look now, I skip the placement. The real gold is finding blogs with tiny traffic but a super loud comment section.

Yes, blog traffic has generally declined.
Main reasons:
  • Google updates reduced organic reach
  • More zero-click search results
  • Users shifted to social media
  • AI tools replacing some searches
Also, Ahrefs often underestimates traffic, so real numbers may be higher.

Maybe war can be one main factor in one particular area. but in asia i believe traffic will be still normal
 
Yes many blog traffic numbers look lower now because Google search is more competitive and tools like Ahrefs show more realistic estimates so old claims often dont match current data
 
Basically no, blog traffic hasn't gone away but competition has increased. Now traffic only comes when content is SEO optimized, useful, and promoted across multiple platforms (like YouTube or Instagram).

honestly nowadays big sites are getting more visibility than smaller blogs

But the difference is so big. Ahrefs' numbers are like 80 or 90% less than what was stated in an article from 2 years ago about that site.
 
Yeah, the search traffic has dropped as most people (particularly youngsters) are switching to AI tools. Most of these sites retain loyal users while they're hardly getting anything out of search traffic. However, they keep old numbers everywhere to maintain their profits.

Many blogs have experienced a drop in traffic over the past 2 years due to the Google algorithms changes, AI answers, Pinterest’s decline, Reddit/UGC visibility, and social sites locking users into their applications. Additionally, traffic estimates from Ahrefs are usually lower than actual traffic statistics.
 
Traffic is not fully down, but Google changes and AI results have made many blogs get less real clicks, so numbers often look lower than before.
 
I usually take Ahrefs numbers with a grain of salt because they miss a big chunk of social and direct visits. What helps me is watching GA patterns instead of the raw totals, since those show whether people actually stick around and click stuff. If ad RPMs are steady but traffic looks lower in the tools, it's often just the tools being stingy, not the audience disappearing.
