Telegram Ads - lots of views within small timeframe, no clicks

Hello,

Recently I decided it's time to sort my Telegram Ads manually so that I only target checked and active channels and I'm not wasting budget on old/fake ones. I checked the channels one by one and made separate ads. However, what I noticed is that several ads eat the budget despite how low the CPM is. I am talking about 3000-5000 views in a matter of hour, with zero clicks and joins. I've never had such a problem, even when automatically adding channels and not checking them manually. I've spent a lot of time sorting them channel by channel just so that it can be as optimized as possible and now I can't even use them because they are eating all the money and delivering no results. Could these be some BOT views, because there is no way that out of 10000 people who've seen my ad, there will be less than 5 views?

Yeah, that smells like bot views 100%.

Even if you handpicked the channels, a lot of them are still botted to inflate view counts. Just because they’re “active” doesn’t mean they’re legit. Admins can spoof engagement pretty easily to look real on the surface.

CPM being low is actually a red flag in some cases — it means you’re paying for junk traffic. Real, high-quality audiences cost more.

Sorting manually is good, but Telegram is still the Wild West. Don’t trust the view count alone.

My suggestion is to use a niche-focused marketing software and introduce it to people from all targeted groups through specific strategies.

What bothers me is that bot views were a thing a while back as well, but I've never ran ads that were draining the budget due to them. I started noticing old ads being affected as well.
 
Tried a new ad with suggested by Telegram channels, look at this. 100 views per second. It didn't use to be like that.

  • Pause the underperforming ads immediately to prevent further budget loss.
  • Monitor view velocity — if you're seeing thousands of views within minutes or a single hour with no engagement, that’s a red flag.
  • Reach out to Telegram Ads support (if you haven’t already) to report the channels in question and ask for further investigation or potential compensation.
  • Consider using UTM tracking or a custom landing page to verify traffic quality externally.
 
You could test a few channels with higher CPM but real engagement- sometimes paying a bit more gives better ROI than chasing cheap views.
 
Yeah, sounds like bot views—Telegram’s ad system still delivers impressions even on inactive or fake users, so clicks stay near zero.

100 views per second is wild, no organic channel pushes like that. that pattern usually means the impressions are coming from a botnet sitting on those channels, not real subscribers scrolling.

one thing nobody mentioned... the timing matters. you said old ads got affected too. that points away from it being your channel selection and more toward something on telegrams delivery side. when they widen the pool or a channel gets resold/botted after you vetted it, your clean ads start catching the same junk. manual checking only captures a snapshot, the channel can go bad a week later.

what i'd do before reaching out to support is pull the per channel breakdown and look at view to join ratio individually. you'll probably see 2-3 channels eating 90% of the spend with flat zero. kill those specifically instead of pausing everything. then for testing keep a small whitelist of channels where you've actually seen real joins come through historically and only run there for a bit.

cheap CPM with that velocity is basically always synthetic. real people don't move in perfect waves like that.
 
manual vetting by subscriber count is not enough, the metric that actually predicts click quality is the views to reactions ratio on regular posts. if a channel has 50k views per post and 3 reactions total its botted, doesnt matter how "active" it looks. i filter out anything below 0.5% reaction rate before even adding it to a campaign. saves a lot of budget on exactly the situation you described
