Currently working as a CNC Laser operator. Always thought about something like this as there is definitely a demand and with enough creativity you can make anything. Following your journey and good luck!

Short summary of the last few days.

I was contacted by a company asking me for a quote to engrave 200 wooden cubes, on 4 sides.
I have a few phone calls for custom engravings and the last one was on glass but unfortunately I am unable to engrave glass yet as I don't have my rotary axis.

In short, there is a way to make big money in this business!
 
This is the kind of business that you will do best with building up locally. Having an online presence to show your work and provide contact info is good, and if you want a steady stream of income then offer standard pre-made products that you can cut out from a single sheet. These lasers can cut so take advantage of that fact, in particular sheets of plastic, metal, or acrylic. You can design and make products that you cut out flat, then assemble by fitting them together and gluing them. I used to cut parts out of aluminum sheets for RC cars and planes. Simple pieces that sell for under $10 but sell in high volumes on ebay or amazon. You can also run your own website, which I used to do a long long time ago.
