Google Fred Recovery Tips

web 2.0, found a CMS which allows ******** links.(lots of links form there), profile links and some blog comments

You really don't need any update to get hit for that.

If you need an indexing service because Google won't crawl the page otherwise, it says something about the quality of the page.

I have posts that goes upto 4000 words...so content quality was strong enough to sustain those sort of links
Also by "lot of links" i mean around 150 links in total from 150 different domains

the only other notable factor is that it was an expired domain.

Oh dear. If you think that the only noticable factor is it was an expired domain and not the fact you made 450 crap links, then you should really do some more reading on SEO.

Oh my... so by this theory. If I build a new site, put 1x3000 word article on homepage and blast it with hundreds of blog comments, it will be fine, because the content was quality?

SEO does not work like this buddy. Maybe in 2011, sure, but not these days. And blaming update instead of your own skills is not really a way to go.

@THUNDERELVI and @Nargil you turned, into the words of the OP, a turd into a diamond of a thread, thanks guys, just one question, the internal links guide you referenced thunderelvi, is it in its entirety on the great guide nargi posted, or is there another source for your knowledge on this particular subject?

you see, Ive been trying hard to know more about internal linking because some of my competitors are ranking with very little off page and not much authority, just using good content, but in some cases not even that, just internal linking.

frankly I know everyone is freaking out with these latests G algos, and I'm too, dont get me wrong, but I look forward to the day SEO consists exclusively on putting only the best content forward and not having to do a lot of laborious linkbuilding to trick the engine. We're closer to that day, and in this future scenario you still will need SEO for the onpage sutff, for the internal linking and for all the organization of the website, so on that regard Im not worried

Here is an older thread from the same author - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/phpbuilts-idiot-proof-guide-to-authority-site-building.631067/

You don't really need anything else. Rules of interlinking have not changed much since then, if at all.

Nargil beat me to it man, that's the thread I was talking about. Read EVERY page in there, especially every post by the OP, it's pure gold. The 2015 guide is just an update, but you will find most of the information in that thread. And Nargil is right, nothing has changed regarding internal links, in fact they are more important now than they were few years ago (or maybe I didn't see their effect because I wasn't using them to their full potential).

@THUNDERELVI @Nargil - Thanks for the info and for the links, they were very helpful. 2 questions, if you have a second.

I have a page with 4334 words and my main keyword is 'best blue widgets' which appears 37 times including sidebar/breadcrumbs etc, however, 'blue widget' appears 56 times as I use it with other long tail terms or by itself. Is the latter causing a problem for 'best blue widgets' ranking or should it be OK?

AHREFS shows anchors as

'blue widget' - 5 domains / 5 pages
'blue widgets' - 4 domains / 272 pages
'best widget' 12 domains / 200 pages
'best blue widgets' - 0 domains / 0 pages

I can control the 'blue widgets' and 'best widget' links, what would you do if you wanted to rank 'best blue widgets'? I would love to rank the other keywords but they are higher difficulty.

That's density of over 2.5% for a 3 word keyword. That's pretty much 3 times as high as it should be, so I would really improve that. Also, remove breadcrumbs and try to limit them in sidebars etc, because without any offsite SEO, it may even lead to content cannibalization. Try to remove the keywords from menus/sidebards as much as you possibly can.

And yes, all your targeted keywords should be within the ideal KW densities. Sometimes it's hard to make, but yeh, you should stick with that. Install Quirk Search plugin for Firefox, that one is pretty helpful. And also use this tool - http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword-density/

here are my 2 cents

my website has 30 posts with average word count upto 3000+ words per post..yet my website was hit ...so I highly doubt that it has to do something with content

I was on 2nd and 3rd pages for lots of keywords..now all are ranking beyond 8th page or out of 100

p.s.the only stupid thing I remember doing before fred was using an indexing service for my 450 links...
Word count != quality.

Whooo if I order 15,000 words homepage then GSA Xrumer blast the shit out of the domain I guess "content quality is strong enough to sustain those sort of links" too. Nice "quality content can sustain links" theory!

To be honest the backlink profile plus the domain age plus the links velocity would be the main factor to determine if a domain is sustainable to a limited number of links though.

I've been reading that most the sites affected by "Fred" were making money off ad's, many being Adsense sites. Any of you confirm a site that was hit that was something OTHER, like an ecommerce site?

Thanks, will take a look at both of those tools and correct the density. The site homepage has never ranked whereas the internal pages have done OK and now having read your posts and the PDF, I know why. Lesson learnt, don't just rely on Yoast for density as that was telling me it was 0.6%...

Don't rely on yoast at all :)

I have an affiliate site that moved to https about 4 days ago. Taken a hit so not sure if its to do with G recrawling the site or whether its affected by Fred the fucker yet. Will keep on doing new stuff to the site and see what happens.

It has a lot of indepth content and well researched articles and reviews. It is nothing like the sites I saw get hit on SER's list of sites.

Barry Schwartz of SERoundtable posted on SELand and elsewhere that the G Fred penalty is a QUALITY targeted algo

Sounds about right

Don't get too aggressive your ads, guys.

How much do you charge for a sitewide audit? :)
