yes very bad update!11
Can you tell us;

1) what linkbuilding have you done?
2) did you use any P(ublic)BN from bhw here?
3) hows ur anchors? overoptimized by a bit?
4) much content on the site?
5) old site?

No one really knows how long. But give a week or two. Watch Algoroo or Mozcast to get an idea when the volatility comes down. When Algoroo gets back to green for a few days, things usually are settling down.

Is algoroo the one that missed this update totally and only detected it after we reported it on BHW? Or was it all the other tools? Like Moz and shit?

I did nothing. When I started to lose ranking in late September, I had no idea what was going on until they announced in October that Penguin is live and has become a part of their core algorithm. At that time since most of my links were ( and are) PBN there was nothing I could do but sit and wait and see what will happen. Eventually, I got my ranking back, for some keywords even better :) Seeing a big update like this one there will be a collateral damage and things will be all over the place for a while as the algo needs to recalculate a new ranking score. Obviously, the sit and wait attitude won't work for everyone. As it depends on the kind of website and content quality they have.

P.S. During this update only 2 of my posts are jumping up and down. That's why given the nature of my links I strongly believe that this update has more to do with content rather than links.

Were you freaking out like I am now, or were you like a calm Buddha? :)

For the past 3 or 4 days my rankings kept dropping steadily until they seem now to have stabilised (albeit in their new way lower position). I'm hoping this is now the trough of my rankings fall and that I'll start crawling steadily back up in a few days.

Good luck everyone!

I don't think the update is complete - G. will probably take few days to assess recent changes and roll out next part

My websites dropped too. I don't know what it is but some clients of mine started to ask me to remove their paid links from my site. So maybe it has to do with links.

See a lot of speculations and talk, I'm just gonna share my stats.

I have about 8 sites or so and they've all had some dancing going the last few days, some more than others. Nearly all keywords that had stable rankings have not experienced any big jumps. By stable I mean they've been at that position for several weeks (with one exception). One site is purely powered by PBNs and is still sitting unscathed at the top, actually most of my PBN sites have managed just fine.

One thing I have noticed though, is that e-commerce keywords are affected the most. Some of these keywords have even dropped out of the serps completely. We'll see if they bounce back or not.

I also have another site that's swedish, it consists of mostly longer articles covering top products and this site has been affected the most. It's gone from 700 uniques a day to around 500. I'm thinking it'll bounce back up soon though. This site is powered by a few PBNs but also by links from directories, forums, guest posts, etc.

If I were to have my own theory, I think that this update is revolving around the visitor interactions on your site, the site that got hit the hardest was also the one with pretty bad stats, 80% bounce rate, 40 second sessions etc.

I think that you are right bro, 2 of 5 of my sites got bounced hard, both had low stats, so I guess it's true, and we have a new fight to fight.
I thought about this several times already, why google isn't giving bounce rate and session time more value, I guess they thought about it too.

I have many sites without any links whatsoever, and they were all killed at one time. Murdered, in fact.
