Question to those who have been hit by this 'Fred' update. Do you have any 301 redirects from an old age domain? Or built 2nd tier links to your PBN? I'm asking because a lot of my links are PBN built over time from BHW marketplace and I have not been hit. So I'm having a hard time accepting the idea that this update is related to links (in general). If it is it must be something VERY specific.

I don't have any redirects or tier 2 links pointing to my personal PBN (disregarding PBN links bought from here). Yeah, it's an odd 'update', if you could even call it that. Still trying to figure things out. At this stage though, I would have to disagree with you. I DO think it's link-related, but in what capacity I'm not quite sure. After conducting a link audit, I saw some very dodgy links, possibly from neg-seo, that could have triggered something when 'Fred' was rolled-out. Have since submitted a disavow file and am awaiting to see the results.

Always keen to hear what others have experienced and are doing. Keep chiming in, guys!

No positive or negative movement so far, things pretty much stable here.

One of the sites I owned that got impacted purely had outreach backlinks. Some of these backlinks were done by me and I also outsourced some to TheHoth.com and FatJoe.co. About 50 links in total. Completed over the course of several months.

As I said, my traffic declined by 50% overnight but my AdSense earnings have remained CONSISTENT, which is the weird part.

It's almost like the traffic is higher quality/converts better.

I'd would rule out neg seo because a month and a half ago I have had a bad experience with one seller here. His website was hacked and generated over 29,000 links. It has absolutely no effect. The pages are as strong as they were. I'd rule out anchor text ratio as well because I have a few pages with about 20 (PBN) links and all of them are exact anchor match. All of them are ranking on first page between 1-5.

Not all niches have been hit, surely there are niches where people with exact anchors are still on 1st page, they are just testing algo for now.

Site with rankerx type of links, stable.
Site with private pbn links, pretty decent imho.. mostly branded and generic links, dances like crazy.
Gave up on trying to understand google. Just do what works

It is pretty easy for google to filter out PBN links, like devalue links from expired domains with old authority and old backlinks, Devalue links coming from websites with less then 20 indexed pages in google, Devalue links from websites with alexa more then 10 million etc. Even if this update did not already do it, but it can happen in coming months.

What you can do? - Do not rely completely on PBN rather keep them just 10-20% of the overall link building plan.

Just my two cents.

Guys brace yourself, i think the update is not done yet, it is getting more aggressive today according to Algoroo.

To all BHWers:

I wasn't around when this huge shift happened last time, 2012/2014 but this time its updating huge. So far from what I have read, everybody from whitehat sites, greyhat sites and blackhat sites got hit. No pattern yet whatsoever.

I own a few sites with 100% PBN links, on the first two days my sites were okay.

Last night I checked and one has dropped -15, the other has gone down -6 .Could be a bad link, could be the update.

Haven't been building links for quite a few months, didn't bother with ranking either. I see surge in rankings yesterday. Truly mind boggling.

One of my domains which i spammed to shit and never bothered to clean up has just moved most keys from the 5th page to the first position, lol. Quite high volume keys to. If it lasts then Google seriously fucked up. Other domains are all somewhat stable.

Totally different to me, i have sites spammed to dead with shitty links from GSA and they suffered +80% of traffic drops.

I DO think this update has to be with LINK-QUALITY, please check TRUST FLOW of your dropped sites regarding Citation Flows of the sites.

Here is a comment from search engine roundtable:

"I believe the update. In our Console our links dropped drastically from 16,000 or so down to what is about 8,700. And I'm worried the drop will continue. But this update is definitely link driven for sure."

Maybe this will give us some clues....

Using G tools is like leaving footprints on wet sand. Get rid of G and please don't tell me you're using GSC?

Didn't use GSA, just gigs on here like "600 blog post for 80$", which to me is pure spam, all the same content on shit domains. And it ranked 1st before then all rankings tanked to 50 + and now are suddenly back. I doubt it will last long.
