A little bit about me​

My name is Josh, and I'm a 16 year old guy from Australia who for as long as I remember has dreamt of being rich. I've spent countless hours thinking of new ideas, and I've got an 'ideas notepad' with at least 100 different business startup ideas that I believe are profitable and viable. Maybe a year or two ago, I came across this website when doing some research for a FIFA coin selling venture I pursued for a while. I got some great tips, but lost interest and motivation to continue, so my involvement in internet marketing ceased... until a few months ago, when I decided I'd really take a proper shot at IM.

My goal​

I want to make $100,000 AUD by 31/12/16. Don't ask me why that number, but it just felt right. I know it is an absolutely huge number, but I honestly don't see why it's not achievable. Obviously, for a 16 year old, that type of money has never come to me before, so if I can even get a tenth of that I'd be over the moon. Of course, this is a short term goal. My long term goal is to retire by 30, living a lavish lifestyle.

The game plan & my reasoning​

In my reading, there was one thing that just kept on coming up - affiliates. There's so much money to be made for affiliates, but what happened to the mantra that this forum sings to?

"If you don't build your dream - someone will hire you to build theirs"

I thought to myself - why should I be doing all the dirty work, chasing a sale, to only get a small cut of the profits that these product/service designers created? Why don't I create a product, and get affiliates to do the hard work for me?

I knew that what I had to produce had to fulfil three criteria:

1. The creation must be outsourceable.
2. The product must be scaleable.
3. I must be interested in the product.

My reasoning for these three criteria are obvious, I hope.

After long research, I'd decided on what I'd choose to sell, and I got to work mapping out my plan. I was too busy with school, as I am in my final year of high school, but now I am on holidays, so I have no more reason to put off pursuing this - and that is what this thread is for. I hope that this thread can keep me dedicated and motivated to continue developing my idea and hoping to realise my goal.

Stats​

My product will be priced at around $130, with additional plans with pricing going up. For me to achieve my goal, here's the stats I'll be looking at:

Average sale = $200USD ≈ $270 AUD
Profit per sale (exclusive of affiliate payments) = $150USD ≈ $230 AUD
Sales to reach goal = $100,000/$230 = 434 sales
Sales per day (from July, when I expect to start making money) = 434/181 = 2.3
Landing page conversion rate ≈ 2.3%
Traffic needed ≈ 100 UV per day

What this thread will feature​

I'm aiming to provide you all with the steps that I've taken to build my business, and potentially be one of those threads that people 5 years from now can discover, and my success can inspire them to be successful too.

I'll leave the first post at this for now, and will make a second post outlining my goals for this week.

16/6/16 Update​

Goals:
1. I want to finish my website within the next couple of weeks. This involves:

a. Either creating or paying for a video sales letter
b. Getting a great copy written, either do it myself or pay for it
c. Create a few different copies of the website landing page for split testing

i. Video page without sales text (a few different colour schemes and layouts etc.)
ii. Video page with long form sales text with lots of friendly/appealing graphics
iii. Video page with long form sales text with typical "EXPOSED" "FINALLY REVEALED" hype related graphics
iv. Video page with short sales text
v. No video, long form text only sales page​

d. Set up a checkout system (have hardly any knowledge on this, will have to do a lot of research)
e. Maybe make a blog in a subdomain, focused on the benefits of the upsells I'll be doing. Could also be helpful for SEO but I don't think I'll be doing much of that. Most of my traffic will come from paid traffic.
f. Create an opt-in form and set it up with an autoresponder.​

2. Start researching what the best paid traffic sources are.

Financials:
Current Spend: $1
- Domain registration - $1 (Godaddy coupon)
- Hosting - Already had an unlimited add-on domain hosting package - $75/year - (Already owned)
- ThriveThemes membership - $75/quarter (Already owned)

Current Earned: $0

Before creating this thread what I'd already made done some work on my website landing page, and had written a pretty decent copy IMO.

Thanks! The product will be a digital product. I'll be upselling upgrades to the product as a additional revenue stream, and maybe a video course with a monthly membership fee with a members only forum on how to use the product.

Glad to hear you're working on this Josh.

I remember being 16 and having the same drive and obsession with making something work as you do! I would think about it 24/7 and always think about if I only have x amount of sales somehow at x price, I'll have $xxxx! It's a good feeling to have and it seems most people on this site have that weird gears-are-always-turning spark inside them that keeps pushing them forward to work on these projects no matter what circumstances come up.

Don't let your parents or friends deter you... They played it safe and they will try to get you to play it safe too (go to university, get a good job, etc.). This is all fine and dandy, but never give up these projects man!

I wish you the best of luck down under, hopefully when you're rich in your 20s you can come up to the states with us and party!

This made me feel really good, thanks so much man One of my longer term goals is to move to LA or New York, went there on holiday last year and was absolutely amazed at how beautiful they both were.

Quick update - I've been reading a lot of sales page conversion rate improving tips and tricks, but have kept on double thinking myself and finding a new source that contradicts what the last one I just read said. I've done not much tangible work, but I've learnt so much. I know I just need to bang something out, and that's the plan for today - get at least a rough draft of what I want to do.

I think I'll be transitioning into more of a sales funnel, as my asking price is pretty high and it would be unreasonable to expect someone to spend that much after only watching a 10 minute video for example. I've drafted out the different stages of my funnel, and I'm almost done on my landing page. I'll be writing the script for the follow up video after email signup for the next couple of hours then I'll start making the video with something like keynote.

You're pretty articulate for a 16 year old. When I was 16, my English was on the same level as that of a 6th grader. Forward to less than a decade later, and I make $100k+/year.

You'll be fine you are persistent and don't give up. You might be articulate and clever, but I know plenty articulate and clever quitters that make a whopping $0/month. They talk the talk but they don't walk the walk.

On a side note, I find your goal somewhat unrealistic just because you haven't gotten this idea up and running yet and thus no real response from the market. Regardless, I wish you much success.

Hey, thanks very much, and congrats on your income. I'm really set and this and won't give up - I know there's a lot of money to be made and I'm more than happy to make sacrifices to achieve it. I understand what you mean by the unrealistic goal, and you're right - it is pretty unrealistic. I set it for myself as something to keep working towards, as unachievable and unproven as it may seem.

The number $100,000 doesn't really derive from anything, it's a nice number so it's what I picked for myself. That sounds silly as I type it out, but once again I feel that it will only take hard work and dedication to achieve. Honestly - I probably don't have much use for that type of money at my current stage of life - but I guess it would be great to be able to support myself financially and be able to take the types of risks needed to become very successful.

Obviously it'd be nice to treat myself to some nice things like a good watch, nice clothes, a first car, savings for a house without being so dependant on my parents as I currently don't have a job.

That's good to hear mate. Having $100,000 might seem like alot, especially for most young people, but it isn't if it's without a business. What you should be aiming for is passive income that pays you indefinitely (e.g. 10 years from now on). I'll choose $2,000/month over $100,000 any day if I was convinced that this income is stable for another 5 years and has potential to grow.

First things first. Let me say congrats for the step you have taken. I can say that this is always the hardest part for a person to do. I always say that ones you have the drive to do something, then it means that you have the ability to do it when given an opportunity. I will also say that on the journey towards realizing this, there are very many handles that you will go through. Those are the things that will always built you and never say I give up.
