My dad has been living in Northern Spain for 5 years. He bought a freaking Fortress dating back to the 1,200's! Seriously, it is a lookout post, with 3.5m thick stone walls up in the Spanish alps. He bought it along with a ton of land, for like $300k. Now he's in the process of developing his own winery.
I wouldn't suggest trying to talk to him. He's a master snake charmer. Was the #1 sales agent across the US, for John Hancock Life Insurance through the 1990s. Incredibly tactical conversationalist. He'll have you think it's YOUR idea to give him a bunch of money for shit that you don't get to use, until you die. And then when you die you still don't get to use it because you're freaking dead!
On a side note, the pictures I've seen, are freaking beautiful. And with Spain being on the same parallel as California, it has similar weather! With their economy going to shit, I'm sure you could really make your money $trech!

He was USMC infantry, before he went to Yale. So not only is he a gritty asshole, but he can be a refined one as well.

When are you heading there? I might be going there soon to meet some old friends.
I've recently created a similar post about connecting with IM guys in Thailand. Although a lot of people share their experiences, not many say "yes I'm from there, let's meet." You could try sites like TripAdvisor or Couchsurfing to find people that are living there or going there and hope the other person shares in interest in IM.

I'm moving to Barcelona this summer, but only for two days.

Never been to Barcelona but I will be there in august for the world poker tournament EU tour... I've lived in Madrid for a year, it was amazing and people say Barcelona is much better!
Right now I'm in on the south coast of Spain by the Mediterranean.. close to Alicante and la manga.. Spain is the place to be for me - sunshine, good food, lower cost of living, cannabis clubs/outdoor growing and amazing women! What more do you want
