2016 will see 8K video gaming?

Between NVLINK allowing for faster memory bandwidth along with up to 8 GPU's instead of the current max of 4, and with DirectX improving perfomance, it seems like the jump from 4K to 8K will happen sooner than 1080p to 4K.

However, when I first saw a 4k monitor compared to a 1080, the viewing experience was very different.

There is a difference between 1080 and 4k, saw it in a store and you could see the wood gain hairs on a sharpened color pencil!

for 4k you can see the quality picture from minimum distance
for 1080p if you want to see the same quality you need to sit down on greater distance
nothing else
it would not be a quality difference like Led tv and Plasma tv
so calm down

Using an old HD 7950, with a e3-1230v3 a guy was able to get 2 fps on crysis 3 at 8K. So with pascal should probably be able to achieve it with a higher cpu such as the i7 5960x.

on my desktop i have an r7 260x, and on my laptop a hd 4600, but I'm going to upgrade to a laptop with 2x GTX980M for gaming and video editing.

Only minority plays in for 4K now,usually it's for non demanding games or testing purposes

It seems like it will be possible for a high end rig, while 4K becomes more mainstream in 2016.

(Also my definition of 'gaming' is to run fluently at near 60 FPS)

With the combined jump from dx12 and pascal(nvidia is better than amd), it seems like there could be a 30x jump in the fps the guy was getting on an older 7950. The 7950 is already a few generations old and wasn't even the highest end of the generation(7990).


4 way sli 1080 could on a dx12 video game probably will get 8K frame rate at 60fps.

Software optimization is going to play such a huge role in the future of video gaming and increasing the resolution. I've been playing some of Total War Attila and Total War Medeval 2, and the Attila game plays so much smoother on my hardware even though its almost a decade younger but it uses DX11 compared to DX9. I struggle with a 9,000 man battle on MW2 while a 16,000 man battle is so easy to do on Attilla.

I saw something on Imgur a week or so ago, oh my God. The game footage literally looked like real life, it was very difficult to tell any differences. Just waiting on Grand Theft Auto 7 or 8 here.
