SEO is dead, and SEO is alive.

Let's just say it's a Ghost.

It's dead, but at the same time.. it's living! And those who see dead people are the real ghost (SEO) experts.

SEO is a zombie "dead and alive at the same time"

SEO will never die, there always be something to optimize the ranking of a website.

SEO is neither dead nor alive, its something that everyone has their own definition to. Just like a ghost? Does it exist? To each their own beliefs.

If there is a search engine, then websites can certainly be optimized to meet the SE's demands... SEO won't ever be dead for as long as a search engine exists.

SEO for Google just keeps evolving and changing, but under no circumstance it is dead. The rules change, but the game remains the same...

SEO will never DIE for obvious,

Yes, Generation changes, generation dead, generation born and generation works.

SO, the method to do SEO.

Let's just say it's the mentality of people :)

One group think of something as possible, another group think of it as impossible. First group work and make it possible while others move on..........

Its better that SEO is hard, imagine how much competition would be there.. This way, only those who really work hard, trying to learn, are able to bank some money with it. I don't know about you guys, but since the last update, my site started ranking pretty fast and good, allthough I am a newb in SEO, I found a way which actually improves ranking speed and gives results. Now all I have to do is to tweak it a bit to improve rankings even more.

SEO is dead and pewep was right all along, you now have to think your website to #1

SEO is dead only in the mind of people those who give-up too early.

"Is seo dead?" - I must have seen that question posted at least a dozen times this week already.

The answer: SEO is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat. It is both dead and alive simultaneously, until we realize it to be one way or the other - and it then becomes so.

Alternatively there's the 'many worlds' theory that SEO is alive or dead depending on which alternate reality you observe it from. I firmly occupy the alive world because the money is still coming in.

SEO seems to become more arbitrary, and these days there is no guarantee that a well built site will rank. After the last penguin, the top serp results for certain keywords are dominated by sites with weak content and links. In some cases these sites have pushed down authority sites that used to hold the tops spots.

While I don't agree with you, if what you said were true then a new method of doing SEO has been borne. Those sites you're seeing rank for an algorithmic reason, once that reason is discovered the ranking factors can be replicated and repeated. So SEO is still alive.

The answer: SEO is Schrodinger's cat. It is both dead and alive simultaneously, until we realize it to be one way or the other - and it then becomes so.
Tell the truth, you've been itching to use Schrodinger's cat in an analogy for a very long time. :D

correct alot of weak sites out there now ranking well but im sure within the next few weeks we should see things move around.. i have many sites few had minor traffic damage but slowly making its way back to its rankings, but each site had its own seo plan. the sites that did the best have social shares/great content/ and little back linking mainly natural links mixed with a few hi pr site links.

its hard never know what will happen but in this age think its better to stay safe with your links.

I agree with what you said. Also, I wasn't saying that SEO is dead, I was saying that it seems to be really random some times. I find that it is often difficult to see any clear "algorithmic reasons" to why certain sites rank while others don't, since similar looking sites in terms of article type and back link profile often fare very differently. So, it is not always easy to replicate what works, since what works also does not work in other cases. So there is often no clear cut path for what you can do to make a site rank, although many pros still have systems that work with most of their sites.

True, many sites with few links, but a very natural looking profile have benefited a lot from this update (so far).
