I am not suffering with any financial problem. I am a music video director as well. And i am making 6-7 figures with IM (This is my 8th year).

But what society thinks? what your parents/relatives and friends thinks about you if you don't have one?
Feel free to post your opinions/views :(

If you have nothing to say, please move on.

You mean university degree?

Yes University degree. at least Masters.

Thats why i made one. Just to have it. The school itself did not bring me much thou. Maybe just some IT general knowledge.

Stfrank,

Depending on the country you are in. Regardless, if no degree is what you feel is the issue, start making the right friends and shaking the right hands and keep building experience. A booksmart person will always be inferior to an equally intelligent person with street smarts.

You just have to understand the time you spend in college going to class, commuting, working to afford school/living, homework, studying and so on NOW needs to replaced with experience and educating yourself in your specific interests. Coming from someone with a degree or two and with large circles of people with degrees, I can say that nothing is to be gained these days in an institution that you cant do yourself in half the time. Even the appealing idea of fraternities is churning out nothing but BRODUDES these days that end up crashing and burning their own personal lives.

We are all sold on the idea of college and obtaining degrees since we started grade school. In favor of having a school agenda, I could see how influencing kids to take their own path would be a disaster for school and parents who have also been brainwashed by this major education system. At the end of the day, you have to understand schools are for the majority, there to train you to be an employee, not an employer!

Trust me, you educate yourself well enough you will eventually notice the reason why people are so attracted to an educated person originally, its up to you to emulate that aura that an educated person gives off with your own personal custom twist of self-education and you have a true key to success. Do you really need to know the history of European Folklore? How about Community Health? If you consider yourself unique, you will realize these are all fluff that have no depth to it.

Good luck and take it as it comes, but do it with your head screwed on!

Bro I have Masters Degree but that not teach you IM. I spends Hell of my time in last 1 Year at learning. So I think you not cursed..Just you not know your path or any guideline to follow.

who cares about it?, it's just for social status IMO.

i bet you are more successful than any of your friends which have the master-degree.

so, don't think about it :)

TRUST ME, unless its something super academic, having a degree is worth less than the paper its printed on.

I'm in my final year in university doing Web Technologies. In year 1 we learnt how to write "hello world" in HTML.....

Year 2 we learnt how to use Adobe Director, most of you probably haven't heard of it, but it was the precursor to Flash....

Third year I chose to do SEO for my project, of which absolutely no one in my whole university knew anything about it.

My friends who went to uni who did not get external experience (ie. freelance, work experience etc etc) are lucky to be working in Mc D, as they are over qualified for remedial jobs, but have no experience in skilled jobs.

My advice, if you want to go to uni, its good fun, you get a degree in life. But make sure you take every opportunity, teach yourself, because what they teach you will NOT suffice.

If you don't want to go, then you'll save tons of cash. Use that cash to peruse your passions fully without distraction.

Heya StFrank,

Ofcourse you are not!
A degree does not mean EVERYTHING.
Sure it might help but its not a requirement for succes in life!

Your Buddy

If you have a choice between college or no college, I would go.

I got a degree in graphic design, and that's helped me tremendously in the struggle not to get a shitty job.

That being said, I am now a full time programmer and I taught myself everything for free from the public library.

It took me 6 months of 5/hour days of studying to get started, and then another 2 years of doing it every day to master it. Now I am making bank since I am a one stop shop.
