Awesome Adsense Journey

Being a member on this forum for about 2 months now, I have spent most of my time reading various methods on how to make a decent income online. From the Money Making section to the My Journey Discussions, each and every thread had something new to offer me. I learned what IM actually is, and now feel as if I know a little bit of what it involves. The reason for starting this thread is that I am feeling somewhat unmotivated, and feel as if a Journey/Journal might be of help in that department.


I won't bore you with any more personal details, as I feel as if nobody actually reads walls of text, especially when they are mostly the ramblings of a somewhat tired and sleepy student. So let's get right to it.


Here is what I'm doing:


Your typical Adsense journey. Nothing special there. It is not my first attempt at Adsense, so I might just know a thing or two - or perhaps not. Even so, I am here to learn, and if my journey does help someone, so much the better.


Here's how I'm doing it:


I am lazy, yet smart. I am a knowledge sponge, thus I have succeeded in sucking in quite a lot of information out of this website. Now that I have the ground work laid out, I can finally begin to monetize my knowledge - or at least try. Heck, I know I will succeed, just trying to be modest here.


I am outsourcing half of the article writing part, as well as the link building part, as I have JV'd with an old friend of mine who is helping me out. I do write content myself, mainly because I like to do so. I've written for various websites before, so I know my way with the keyboard - although I may possibly have tons of grammatical mistakes. Oh well, I will improve in that department hopefully.


Step 1 - Choosing a niche, keyword research and getting a domain


I already did all these things, but I feel as if it is better if I share what I did with you guys. Maybe I did something wrong, and you can correct me, or perhaps I did something good, and others can learn from my experience as well.


First off I chose a pretty broad topic. Broad topics include, but are not limited to: Sports, Food, Entertainment, Health, Web Hosting and so on. Afterwards I tried to look over the internet to see what topics are popular. An in-depth analysis took place, and websites like dmoz, Yahoo directory, ubersuggest, keyword planner did indeed help a lot. Basically, I started off looking for keywords on ubbersuggest, and then looked about finding a topic on Yahoo Directory/DMOZ.


Topics are a dime a dozen, yet finding good keywords for them can sometimes be a struggle. Happily, I came across a great tool to help me out. I got myself Market Samurai - the free trial which lasts 40 days - and can be extended indefinitely for free with a method found on this forum - will look for the link if needed. After I found my topic, I went on google and searched for My Topic + forum, My topic on yahoo answers and so on. I did this to see what other people are talking about my topic. Choosing a niche and finding a good topic took me about a week(told you I am lazy), yet I managed to find a good starting keyword. 33 000 Local Searches(US), 3.87 euro CPC, High Ad Comp, 141 000 phrase searches in Google. I reckon it is alright, especially since the top 10 domains include young domains(<2years) as well as low PR ones. Anyhow, I couldn't get an EMD, but I used a prefix, no biggie.

After I got my main keyword, I continued and found my related keywords, set up categories on the website and started writing content. Set up Contact page, About Us page and a Privacy Policy as well. At the moment I have 14 articles up(home page article is 2000 words). Other articles are shorter, yet they all are 600+ words(usually more). I took my time to scrape free images related to my niche so I could include in my articles.


What I'm planning to do

1. Be awesome! done
2. Post post post! Content is king, and I feel that I have a better chance of monetizing this if I have more articles up. Did lots of keyword research each and every day, and at the moment I have about 50 good keywords. Backlinking is somewhat of a struggle, as I do not really have any experience with it, but I found many great guides on this forum and applying them shouldn't be a struggle- or will it? I made a few web 2.0s, posted a few articles(optimized for some worthless - low CPC - long tails). Didn't link my website right after I made them, since I wanted to let them age a few days. Made them look all natural and such, so I have to links to other authority websites as well (wikipedia and so).

My Goal

The minimum salary in my country is about 250 bucks - insane right? Well if I were to earn 20 bucks a day from this website then I would do quite well. BUT, I am not in this to just ''do well''. I want to do GREAT. I'm setting my starting goal to 150 bucks a day, and then - the world.



Will try to update this thread daily, but if I don't have the time I think every other day will have to do.

I do write content myself, although I do share the workload with a friend. The thing is that I am quite busy these days, so having a friend help out is always great.

And yeah, I know there are many adsense journeys going on at the moment - seems as if Bluematter inspired lots of people. One thing I can tell you for sure is that I won't be giving up without a fight. I'll rather see my fingers bleeding than not monetizing this website.

Anyhow, I really appreciate the support, thanks a lot guys.

So here's what I did today.
Had somewhat of a busy day today, and I was really tired from waking up early with very little sleep last night. Yet I took a short 1h nap after I came home and jumped right into writing when I woke up. Managed to get 3 articles in today, but I fear as that is my limit. It is practically impossible to write more than that in a day (that is if you want quality, SEO optimized content).

How I write my articles
I always have a list of keywords I researched before-hand that is split into categories. This gives me the option of picking different category keywords so that I do not get bored writing the same thing over and over. Afterwards, I pick my keyword and put it into the Google Keyword Planner, to get ideas on what other keywords I can introduce in my article as well as to find related keywords. I then save about 10 in a notepad file and if the context allows me to, I introduce some of those keywords as well.

Note: These keywords are long tailed keywords and related keywords, and they do not have that many monthly searches (1000 tops). I introduce them in my articles in hopes I will rank for them as well, as the probability of a high SEO competition for such long-tails is small. Sure, you can filter them out with MS, but I didn't bother with that.

Then I proceed and do some research on the topic at hand. This is easily done by searching for your keyword and looking at the top 10 sites. Don't copy content though, just inspire your work from it.

I have no idea if this is the right way to do it, so I am open to suggestions and recommendations on this matter. I do know that LSI keywords help you get ranked, so I am trying to introduce related keywords into my articles.

Go to ezinearticles -> type in your keyword -> find 3 articles -> read / write down the important things down -> then proceed to write your article using the important facts that wrote down. Then wait for an hour or some shit like that and go over it again

Plugins I deem useful:
All in one SEO - This is great as it allows me to fill the Title I want appearing on search engines, as well as the description that appears below the titles. I always try to include my targeted keyword both in the title and the description, as this will improve my ranking chances for that keyword.
It also generates a sitemap and submits it to google, yahoo and bing so that they can index all my pages.
Sociable - A great plugin that will put on your site the Like, Share, +1, etc. buttons, allowing your visitors to share/like articles they liked.
Contact Form 7 - A plugin that allows me to create a Contact Us form.
Google Analytics for WP - Helps integrate google analytics into my site so that I can track my visitors. I also make sure to register my site on bing webmaster tools, so I can track my website from multiple places.

Another thing I did before finding my niche and that I forgot to mention: I went to the SquidDon't page on Squidoo. This is basically a page where they tell you what to not write about on their site, but I feel as it could apply to our website as well. It also includes overly-saturated topics that have small chances of ranking on search engines, so I made sure to keep away from those topics.

What I did today
Wrote a few more articles and got them up on my website. The tip with the ezinearticles is great, as you can basically just rewrite articles from there, or at least research topics of your choice.

Will probably write a lot more articles these next days, as for the link building part I might outsource what I can't do. I will probably build the web 2.0s myself, but I will need someone to blast my web 2.0s with backlinks. Are fiverr gigs any good in that department?

Got an article up today, will try to get 1-2 more before the days ends. My partner hasn't been writing as much these last few days, so I am trying to keep up with a 2articles/day rate. It really burns you out to write so much, but meh, I can't complain - it isn't that much work anyway.

Bing webmaster tools finally updated my website. I like them because I can see for what search terms my website showed up in search, really helps identifying what my target audience is looking for.

Was looking of making some cash on the side, so I applied for a Constant Content account and took a peek at iWriter, although I do not know if these website are that profitable. Like I said, I could make a living off Fiverr and other similar websites, but I don't just want do ''make a living'', I want to earn big. Will have to push myself harder now, get more articles up and perhaps improve the ones that are already there. My goal for December is to get 100 quality articles on the site. I currently have 19 articles up.

I've found that creating a solid website with good content and traffic is the easier part, but monetizing with adsense is tough. Do you have any advice on improving ad location? I receive about 750+ visitors on one of my websites but only get about two dollars per day from it.

Good luck with your journey! You state that you are lazy but smart, but trust me, IMers never make it far with just the "smarts". You have to be willing to work your butt off! Don't give up if things aren't going well!
