These competitors site is extremely pissing me of, specially cos he is some old annoying guy as i saw on his G+ author picture, dude have 149 backlinks total, according to ahref data and he is ranking on #2 place, suddenly from nowhere.

I don't know what he might done, first i thought that he's blocked his robot.txt so it couldn't be read from other bots than googles (not possible )

Or maybe he's using some T1 site with high PR who is linking to his money site, i his acklinks he not have something similar to this.... i don't know what to think anymore :owned2:

If someone have some thoughts about this, i would appreciate it, thanks ?

Well, if this is in a low competition niche niche then I can see how he's ranking with only 149 back links. If it's a highly competitive niche then he has to be building/purchasing high PR Tier 1 links. If neither one of these are what's happening then his site is still in the Google honey moon phase and will drop or increase to #1 soon depending on how old his site is and how good the quality of the links are.

Op, Relax .

He just obviously did a better job than you . Don't always trust the data on ahref and take it for the holy grail. It might give you an idea about his global strategy but it won't show you all his backlinks.

Grow up... "extremely pissing me of, specially cos he is some old annoying guy as i saw on his G+ author picture" ?!?
He can't grow up because he doesn't want to be "some old annoying guy" lol

1. Admit it, he is better then you.

2. Learn more to outrank him.

Good Luck!

If its 149 high authority quality backlinks I don't see how he cant be #2 in a niche with low/medium competition

Number of backlinks is a useless metric to study...focus on the quality of backlinks.

100,000,000 shitty low quality worthless backlinks can be outranked by a handful of high quality.

Also, discrediting the guy because he looks old is foolish - he is obviously wise, as he is #2. Case closed.

Maybe you should be focusing on strengthening your own backlink profile and overall authority, rather than posting threads like this which will just make you a target on the forum. Look at your site and see what you can do to improve.

What people need to realize is that the more backlinks a site has, does not mean better. I could go and buy 100k backlinks for $5, and penalized due to using shit links (comments directly pointed at tier one). Another option would be acquiring 10 backlinks for $1000+ a month, and out ranking the living hell out of competitors sites.

People don't seem to understand the exponential nature of link weight.

ONE link from a PR 10 site is worth MILLIONS of links from pr 2 or 3.....Having 149 links says nothing about the site.

Imagine this... There is this one baker, only one in town. He has 1000's of breads, but they are all moldy. Then one day, a foreign baker comes to the marketplace. He brings a small selection of 149 breads from across the lands. People would rather pay multiple times more money for the foreign baker's bread, then hundreds of pieces of moldy bread.

Moldy bread is toxic my friend. It'll give you diarrea and ruin your life during a week. So yeah, the foreign baker wins.

old annoying guy? probably he got more SEO experience than you that's why he ranked better than you LOL

old annoying guy huh.

parley? :D

From personal experience, yes. High PR, DA and PA links are just far better to have.
This must be the case for your competitor.

And if you have a problem with old guys, remember that Google+ defaults don't have to be real.
Also, who doesn't want to be an awesome old guy? You get to have a merlin beard and everyone trusts what you say. Pretty sweet.

Quality > Quantity.

Links on sites / pages with high authority are obviously going to carry a lot more weight...what kind of links does he have?
