Google update just now? 10/4?

I have been watching "Bluehost Coupons" related searches since Glen Allsopp (Viper Chill) brought attention to it. I finance blogger I follow brought to my attention that most of the pages he references have tanked after this update, but it has been replaced with a real quality authority page (ranking #6 for me) with a grand total of 22 words of content on it.

Looks like content really is king... No wonder so many people turn to black hat.


As for ranking changes on my own sites.
Two sites that I have built entirely from sellers here have both moved onto page 1 from page 2 after today. My private blog network sites all remained steady or increased a small amount in the SERPs.
But the real kicker is this one - My authority site got spanked. This site has original content written by me and posted every 2 days for the last 1.5 years. I have never built a link to it in my life, other than manual relevant commenting on others related blogs, and before penguin 2.1 I was receiving around 1,000 searches a day from Google (mostly long tail). Today Yahoo and Bing both sent more searches to my site than Google. What a massive joke!

If Google really wanted people to go white hat, then this update turned me off it forever. It is too easy to rank using Bh methods and you can get smacked just as easy using WH, so why bother?

I didn't see any major changes to the SERPS. I guess they are rolling out small updates every now and then so that by the time the whole algorithm is changed the impact would be less.
People don't complaint when websites go down few places. But they panic when they see their website is out of serps out of the blue.

Yes its happening with me also & i use different browsers & different Ip address & getting different results as well some thing old standard results some times new ?

Weird, when I first search in my G toolbar I see completely shuffled results. Then I click search button again and it goes back to the old results I'm used to...

The best thing you can do is increase your social signals now so more than ever, especially if you have analytics for the domain.

Let them track social referrers without your site rising (or more likely dramatically dropping) in their SERP's.

Are the penalities random or did we all do something similar that caused a penalty.

My primary site which has no black hat techniques at all got hit on SERP's worst of all, again I received no message regarding any sort of penalty.

SEO'ers are like a beaten wife that goes back to the husband that treats them like shit, cuz were still optimistic they will change. Something needs to be done about their monopoly on search and the internet, it's getting bad. The stuff I'm monitoring, some completely legit white hat mom and pop shops are getting hit and other solid white hat sites are gone.

I can't see anything that gives me a definite answer over 25 sites. They all get the same link-building. I buy services, I use many tools and mix it up as much as possible. The only big upwards gain have been from my SEO site that I push lots of social signals at, but that's also got a redirect from my old site that was pretty powerful so I can't tell if it's social or the G update has pushed the old site's link juice through more.

It's a really odd mix. I have sites hosted in various parts of the world in various niches. Two sites are both targeting the same keywords but one UK one US and only the US one has been slapped, the UK one has gone onto the first page for nearly all keywords.

Nothing makes sense to me and my sites just yet, need to dig down into it further.

Slapped also, pages 1 to 16, page 2 to 14 and page 3 to 15 for the three main keywords for my site. It's a new site, about 3 months old, and i've only used two services from here so i'm pretty sure what caused it. Either that or over-optimisation of keywords. I'm gonna get the disavow tool out and de-optimise and see what happens.

Thos saying wait a few days? That's been said the last few updates and if it's tanked, it's tanked. Just don't sit on your arse doing nothing, be pro-active and keep working - your site won't regain rankings by itself.

I dont see how it was around 1%. I see so many changes in the top 10 for so many keywords :S

I think he means 1% of results - so Google show you 1000 results (100 pages of 10 results), 10% of 1000 is 10 - so the entire first page/major shuffles over top 3 pages is what he means.

And that makes sense, the sites at the top have been doing something to get there, the sites on pages 5 to 100 haven't and since no one looks beyond page 2 no other changes will be noticeable.

Google seriously suck.

bh sites : few got hit, few still ranking sky high.

One of my clients sites got a huge slap, all 20 keywords down with 8 losing all serps. I took the project on knowing that the site already had a very bad back link profile and was a prime candidate for getting slapped so at least I gave him prior warning!
