First offline SEO client! help!

A family member mentioned that I do SEO/internet marketing to her boss at work and now he wants to meet with me!

He is currently paying $99/hr for "content management", I checked out his site which is run by the local SEO company and it's just a basic wordpress site. So I can easily charge him $20/hr to add some text lol.

My question is how "black hat" should I go for his SEO and where to even start with pricing? I'm thinking 5-10 web 2.0 buffers pages then hit them hard with GSA/SEnuke package. It's for local insurance niche which only gets 50-100 searches per month so should be super easy to rank. Would $250/mon be a good price? I really have no idea what to charge.

I know this question has probably has been asked before, but any help would be awesome because I'm pretty nervous!

I'm thinking about opening up a bakery. I've already paid for the materials and building but I'll be damned if I know how the fuck to bake a damned thing...

May be you put up a talk with your client that you would charge bit more after you get the site to a good position. Like page 1 with in top 3 spot of google.

this way i am sure the client will be happy and convinced.

Just an idea which may help you put up a stand to make few more bucks.
 
I have no idea whatsoever why you're offering services that you have no idea how to provide...

However, pricing varies according to how much they can earn from a single client. As to how "black hat" you should go, you should be trying to be keeping it clean as possible. I'm pretty sure your client would be pissed off if you tanked his money site that he makes his living off of.
 
A better way to go about this is look at his website and were it is at right now. Ranking, backlinks, design, reputation and on-site seo. Then think of it as your site and how you would get it to first page (whitehat) including all the services, softwares you would use and the amount of time you would spend working on it. Then think about how much would all of that cost and double it then you have your price.

Keep it white and grey but definently not blackhat because remember they have a established offline business and they want a presence online that is all.

100 unique tier articles = $500 per month

100 Tier 2 unique articles = $500 per month
Out source spinning 100 Tier 2 articles = $500 per month

30 premium proxies = $59.00 per month (ScrapeboxProxy)
Ultimate Demon = $47 per month

= $1661

$1661 x 2 (Profit) = $3322

Don't forget this only goes 2 tiers deep. You still need 3 more tiers to go.
 
I would think twice about stealing someone's business if you don't know what you're doing. If you had experience and knew you were a superior SEO company, that would be different, but it sounds like you don't know how to provide what the client needs. On top of that, if you screw it up, it will make things difficult at work for the family member who recommended you.
 
aybe you should read up on local SEO. You do not know anything about it.
 
Good to know, If you can charge $250 or more try other ways than SE nuke, lately they are being slaped hard... Do some manual smart link building im sure you can rank for small local keyword

Sorry, newb question - What is considered Tier 1 and Tier 2?
 
Outsource it to someone and split the profits. Don't do any crazy backlinking stuff. This sounds like a hella easy project. All the best.
 
Fyi you don't need to start with bh tactics. Plenty of wh tactics that work. Don't tank the site, I'm sure you know that. $20 a hour is a good starting point. You have to see what he or she really needs, social media is pretty big, some just charge 250 a month to make a few fb posts a week now. So, see what they need, suggest social media, email marketing, business citations are big, not only making them but updating them.

50-100 searches a month. Well what does a conversion count for? Does a new customer bring in $500 a policy. How much is he spending on new customers, you can suggest ppc and manage that as well. If your client has $250 to spend a month, there's not a alot of room to make money. Gsa does work, but you have to have a well rounded game plan, this isn't a affiliate site, it's someones business, and sometimes shit happens when you have a well rounded game plan.

Also, if this is for a family members boss, you really want things to work out well. So make sure to explain that no matter what you do, we can't control google, we use methods and tactics that currently work and show results.

Never try and get involved with business that you are not confident of delivery especially your family.

A quick buck can come and go but putting strain on existing relationships due to work is going to cost you a lot more..
 
I would charge 1K per month. Then go from there. none of this hourly non sense.
 
If it's "easy to rank" as you say, why would you go bh methods at all? Agree with others you're better of outsourcing or not touching it at all because you will fuck it up.
 
Thanks for the replies, some good tips in there spread out among the troll responses.

Let it be known I didn't go actively looking for offline clients, but when a company is paying $99/hr for someone to add content to a WP site and they aren't even ranking at all I'm pretty sure I will be of more help than harm to their website :)

Of course I will be going as white/grey hat as possible, but we all know that almost any type of SEO could be considered black hat especially in the eyes of Mr. Matt Cutts.
