Yeah, we all know that our forum is being run down by spammers popping up each day to increase their post count to 15 so they can PM. I know I am not the sharpest tool in the shed to talk about this topic but just out of my love for this forum comes this suggestion.

Maybe if we could require that the first 15 posts be 30 characters long each, it would help cut down on spam. They cannot spam 30 characters without easily being recognized and banned. This would also put an end to the short posts made.

Just my $0.02

Personally I disagree...means we have to waste time reading through 100s of longer useless posts rather than 100s of short ones?

Or maybe I am missing something - not the sharpest tool either.

As it is atm, if I see 4 words I can skip cos I know it just says thanks or something, or read it in 0.5 secs - worse IMO is those that are a couple of sentences long and you think they are going to add to the discussion and they add nothing. Over a day, this wastes an awful lot of time.

I'd say, let all the users who have made their 15 posts go into moderation before having extended or additional access and then delete the posts of the users who've been spamming, they get an automated notice and so they get a new chance, if they get declined access in the second round, they're banned. This would ofcourse bring much overhead to the mods, but just an idea.

can u imagine having the mods having to review
thousands of accounts with 15 posts waiting to be reviewed
cant see that happening

Well, this would at least cut down on the spam a bit, but still at the same cost of human labour. Think it as a way of handling reported spam posts, they rather get reviewed in a batch at a time. If I remember right, DP has a similar system in place.

Junkfood00 you're blue! Congratulations!

Thanks mate.

I think if you make that rule you will just get more people coming out with long winded crap posts instead of short crap posts:)

' I don't think things are that bad as they are, I can happily read the forum without being bothered by much spam, and if I see anyone spamming I either report them or neg rep them or pm them, depending on the circumstances.

Thats a pretty brilliant suggestion. Maybe the mods can't handle accounts with 15 posts but what about the first post/thread made?

also make them share a picture of them with a shoe on their head...and tits...lots of `em ... also as a rite of passage they should photoshop the background out of muscleteen's picture

what's the matter RW are you afraid that some spammer is gonna beat your post count ? :D

Thankyou for the post... lol ;) j/k! <-----(30 characters)

I think it would be beneficial in some ways but as mentioned above once they get an error saying the post is too short they will simply make a longer useless post. Not sure if there really is a fix to this issue. I think BHW as a whole does a great job though. It is difficult to read page after page of info though when most the post are a "thankyou note".

Every Forum I have been a part of has this problem. I think the only way to really prevent it would be to have a paid forum... Only people who pay can use... that would fix it right.
