OK, so after much studying, I find a KW that has a monthly global and local search of 95k according to adwords. Buy a domain containing that keyword then build a site around it. Do my SEO as best I can. Add plenty of good, unique content. Built some tier 2 sites around it and blasted them with wiki links and social bookmark links.

Then 2 days ago I hit page one for my KW, the first time I have ever managed to do this. of course I am really happy, seems the hard work paid off.

And then...

100 uniques a day since I hit page one.

WTF!

Time to give this up I think.

When you did your keyword research did you click EXACT SEARCH for the search phrase.

True that, i've had thousand failures in IM. the first blog i ever started back in 2008; i invested all my savings on it and guess what it earned me less than that of my investment, but i never quit.

I don't get why exactly you want to quit? You hit the first page for the first time which itself is something that should motivate you, it means you're doing shit right. Continue and aim for spot 1-3, you know what they say about page one spots and traffic.


Edit: Or choose another niche and/or KW's and take what you learned with you when ranking another website.

I did an exact yes. I'm not at the top of the page yet either, I done some improvements that haven't been indexed yet. maybe it will improve if I can get to the top of the page and it's only been 2 days,, so maybe it will improve. rant over, back to work

Just check that you ticked the exact box, so you know the exact keyword gets those searches.

Then double check your rank with a few tools.

Then work out what traffic you should be getting - I think #1 usually gets between 20-40% of the traffic, #2 10-20% #3 5-7% #4 3-5% and so on- there was a really good post here once about it but I can't find the link.

You said your keyword has 95k search query every month - please go back to adword tool check again as you may be looking at broad search results, check what are the 'exact' local search figs...

Either way, 100 UV a day is good amount for high CPC keyword.

Nothing screams AMATEUR more than believing in Google keyword tool search volume stats

You must double check your chosen keyword phrases with a service such as spyfu.com, as the Google tool is only good for getting ideas and checking how the claimed search volume is trending - i.e. is it seasonal, or falling off generally

Regardless of what the true search volume is, unless you get the #1 search result spot, you won't get more than a very small percentage of the traffic from Google
