I don't think "letting people know you are a girl" is going to help. By drawing attention to your gender and bothering to put that as your user title you are basically using that as your identity. Instead of choosing to showcase your achievements, you are choosing to showcase your gender. You are choosing to let that define you. Well - the reality is that most females in male-centric online areas tend to use their gender as a badge of honour. There is nothing honourable about being a girl in IM. You're just another person. The more attention you draw, the more you make the stigma worse.

Just use your achievements as your identity. Rightfully so, people look upon females who blatantly showcase their gender with suspicion, given GOTIS.

It was my user title back when the user title's were dark blue and no one could read them. When they turned white I decided not to change it.

I do showcase my accomplishments here, which is why I telling my gender does reduce the stigma. I have gained a certain amount of respect in this male dominated forum as someone who knows my craft. A lot of men here come from cultures where women are not allowed to accomplish and yet some of those men have followed my threads and tested my methods. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to change their views on women. If you think I'm doing a bad job, by all means, don't do what I do.
