Some old coin, apparently worth something

Hey there guys and girls

Not long ago I obtained an old coin, seems like it's a U.S. dollar from year 1796. I'm no expert so I know nothing about antiques (therefore please don't expect me to answer technical questions), but a friend told me that it might be worth something. Is there anyone interested in selling it for me on ebay or elsewhere? You get to keep 30% and I'll cover all shipping and handling expenses. I just want to sell some old items including this coin in order to make some money to prepare for the winter.

I've taken a look at the page and compared it to my coin. Mine looks exactly like the one on the genuine picture.

I can't sell it offline because I'm no longer in the U.S. Out here it wouldn't be worth much, I guess.

If it is the genuine item the location won't make much of a difference I think.
Here is a site in Dutch, please look at the numbers at the bottom of the page. I don't think you need to speak Dutch to understand it. :P

It is listed as not for sale yet but I doubt it is less than in the USA.
 
I beg to differ.. When trying to sell something valuable, location makes a lot of difference especially if you're trying to sell it in a country where the average monthly salary is 200 euros.
 
I didn't know we had countries like that in Europe but I see your point. It won't be easy selling it there unless you have access to the elite. The problem is not the value but getting buyers able to spend that kind of money.

Still, I think you will have a hard time finding to sell it for you here too. People can't hold the coin but do have to connect their name to the sale. This on a blackhat forum, buying from a newbie. No offense intended.

Then again, this world never ceases to amaze me. Someone just might take the risk, never know.

Someone is already interested actually. Turns out the coin might be worth several thousand dollars. Makes me a very happy person.

BHW isn't allowing me to post links and I wouldn't want to be banned, so I guess that's not an option.
 
The link in Dutch I showed you has it listed for 1K minimum so I'm not surprised. If it is in mint condition you are looking at 50K. That is Euro's, not dollars.

Other than that I can only say this world never ceases to amaze me. :)
I am happy you might have found someone though.
 
Darn! That sounds so good. The coin looks pretty good, all details are fairly visible. Still if I could get 1000 or 2000 I would be more than happy.
 
Hey mate, can you send me a photo of each side an the edges? I can probably tell you what its worth.
 
Lots of fake Silver Dollars in the world today. Have a registered reputable coin dealer appraise it. Then offer it on Ebay or give the right to a coin dealer to sell it for you. If its a 50K coin see Christy's Auction site

Edges seem to be worn off and eroded heavily but there are dent marks, seems to me like something was written on them. Can't make out what though.
