Is there a good step by step guide anywhere for setting up a solid bulk mail solution. I'm new to this and I would like to setup my own platform where I can send mail to legit emails. Tried using mailchimp but they keep banning me because they don't allow my industry to use their services.

Check Pommo it's much easier and faster mailing script than PHPlist. You can run it on very poor VPS or shared hosting without problems if you set it up correctly. More infos in link above.

If I would be involved in the email-business I would use

phplist ("phplist is the world's most popular open source email campaign manager")
some .info domains (must point to your ip, otherwise no inboxing)
1 cheap VPS

If I get a ban, I would move on.

i suggest you to test AMS 4.3, i use it for myself many times, you can search on g, its old but good, if using decent smtps easy to send any amt of mails fast!

I have mailloop 7 - They have shut down their servers (sad) - I had a dedicated mail server for my lists.
Does anyone know how to 'crack' or avoid the login required? Because the SW works great and through my ISP, so I don't know why it requires the login anyway. I have paid for my version... Is there a replacement of good quality and a low learning curve?

I am checking some of the suggestions here to see if they can work, but I thought I would ask about mailloop - Because I already have it.

I'm new to email marketing and been doing some study and planning. I shortlisted 2 email software to be purchased - interspire & atomic email studio... Any mass mailers using both tools can give their opinion ? I'm more toward AES.

It's not easy. You need static IP for better result, but your IP will get black listed very quick. I gave up using commercial softwares and developed my own for tweaks that I need.

Yes you need to host them on your server and ideally using an SMTP service like smtp.com or socketlabs. The whole setup can be quite expensive and eventually not worth it of you sent too spammy emails, because even if you use a smtp server, you original DNS, domain name, and IP can get permanently black listed
