Hey, have one of those clients that didnt pay for part of web design (about $350) and didnt pay for the seo ($420 month). Now he paid only for 1 month of seo and after 2nd month finished he disappeared and all passwords were changed. This is a big office moving company across the country. I have xrumer and seonuke and scrapebox. What do you suggest?

I suggest you get your money upfront from here on out. If future (potential) clients don't like that, move on -- there's plenty of fish in the sea.

Kinda did have it upfront. We received cheques but the date to take money out was the end of the month. By the time we tried to put it down the cheque was canceled and had no value

first notify the client that you gonna fuck him up with backlinks,he will pay you maybe,or blast the hell out his money site with scrapebox an xrumer, you will have a good night sleep then :) ( tested an working) :p

1st - Find him and Smash his face.
2nd - Blast his site with xrumer and senuke and scrapebox.

Just call him/send him an email telling him you are stopping your services/everything else till he pays. His ranking will drop and he will see he needs you OR you can always do like someone else said and blast his site.

thats why you need to always get the money up-front, you can of course destory his rankings and hack his site but it'll never get your money back

Move on? It's part of your experience when providing a service. Now you know you should receive payment up front.

If you can't handle this, perhaps you should build your own site...

... And that is why you should always build all your clients backlinks to a 301'd domain...

I'd start writing reviews for the company on as many site as I could, mentioning you did work for them and the didn't pay (and set up a hate site with all of their backlinks 301'd to it LD), don't get nasty, keep it professional but get the word out so that the first page is full of you complaining about not being paid.

Also - didn't you have them sign invoices or contracts or agreements or anything?

1. Scrape around 10k Porn related blogs
2. Submit your comments to them.
3. Take a few screen shots and send them to him.

:)

Sounds like you were not 'on-the-ball', as it were. I hope you learnt your lesson.

Depending upon the stress level you can or are willing to endure, there are numerous ways in which to pressure this individual; from 'clean' to 'dirty'. I would need to know more particluars to really help, though.

Of course, you can be a bitch and just neg SEO him out of existence. This, however, is a 'burnt bridge' and does not demonstrate - to yourself (most importantly), or future clientele - that you are an adept professional.

If you have sufficiently planned for assholes to try and steal money from you (a small majority always will), the circumstances in which you find yourself are not going to be a problem. Ergo, I can only continue to circle-back in my mind that this experience will be a lesson to you to either improve/solidify your TOS; or, to further expand your marketing empire into a solid beast, impervious to such insignificant clap-trap.

This is why I never allow payment 50/50. If they don't have the cash to pay you now, they won't have it later. Every single client I have ever accepted 50/50 for (before I stopped doing it) ripped me off.

Either collect all money upfront or tell them to F off.

I was a freelancer for a big London web design company

One of their clients would not pay after a really big job was complete - put the web design firm out of business

As other posters say - get ALL your money in advance before signing off and handing site over

I even charge monthly maintenance in advance of doing any work

As you now know, you can't trust anyone - even big companies

Until a check is cleared, you have not been paid - don't do the work until then

I would chase the legal route first and perhaps get a debt collector (they normally charge a percentage of the fee they recover). Most of the time people pay when they are threatened with legal stuff.

In terms of harming his site, personally i think it could easily come back and bite you and isn't worth the fuss.

Thanks for suggestions they all seem legit. Yes we did sign papers but it would kill a lot of time and money to chaise that company.

Also im not that dedicated to revenge to build a hate website, that just seems time consuming and stupid.

Sending email saying that services stoped wont work cuz i can see they hired someone else as things change on website.

Please dont say what i should have done and how stupid i am not taking money upfront, simply because it doesnt help me.

Blasting is a good idea, specially like the idea with scraping porno (any bad websites will work) sites and showing what im capable off. But problem to that is I expose myself and make it a threat to multimillion company which is not a good sign according to the law.

Join a cheap legal service. There's one called LegalShield that's $17/month I think and you can cancel anytime. It used to be Prepaid Legal. You then call them up and you can have a real lawyer send them a threatening letter for free. Say how you will sue him soon, etc.

Learn from it....make adjustments to your business. Move on. Use the time you would be wasting by blasting the site to make some more money with your new business standards. Any time spent trying to damage them is time you could be making money. Sit back.. enjoy your karma.

Yes it does, actually, but you are in no position/mental space to recognize it. Alter your approach from this experiece, and all future endeavors are therefore altered for the better.

I never have (and likely never will) be able to wrap my head around why people start these "What should I do?!?!?" threads, only looking for what it is they want to hear; and, that which confirms whatever it is that they were planning on doing in the first place...

Silly humans.

Thank you for suggestions and all but take a hike, cuz the thread said suggestions and not life lessons or mistakes made. You dont like the thread dont post here, should be simple enough. Nothing personal )
