My domain is about two weeks old. I'm not an SEO expert, and I don't use SEO for direct money making, it's just to promote my photography business.

Things I've done so far:

Manually registered on hundreds of business directories.
Posted backlinks on lots of blogs.
Submitted videos, articles, and other 2.0 content to various places, all linking back to my site.

I've got about 3% keyword density on my title, properly tagged, with h1, bold, etc.. Everything, far as I can tell is perfect.

I've purchased a few fiverr gigs, nothing crazy, along with the .EDU service on here, and the 15k backlink service.

At the beginning, I was ranking quite high. My best for my keyword was #9, which was the first page of Google. I've bounced around a bit, but never dropping below page 2.

After I purchased the 15k link package from one of the guys in the buy/sell forum, my SERPs have started dropping. I'm now at the top of page 4.

The guy provided me with 28,000 links.

Is this kind of drop to be expected, or have I been penalised somehow?

I don't think I've been too bad as far as black hat SEO goes. I've done a little, but mostly I've just built a web presence by hard work.

Any opinions?

Hmmmmm 28k links to a two week old site, not sure if that will look natural to Google. Now you'll have to keep on linking and see if it recovers. It may well drop further yet and of course it could be the G dance

You aren't supposed to build 15K links to a new site. That is most def. the problem. Slow down your seo. Also, I advise against using Fiverr for seo. While it may be cheap the people on their rarely do a good job. (though sometimes they are ok)

I agree with you the_demon. Slow link building first since it is a brand new site. gradually increase the amount of links overtime.

28k is too much.. just do 10-20 a day consistently and work ur way up

Yeah, thought that was the case.

Read conflicting reports though, others said it just wouldn't matter.

So is there a direct course of action from here? Others are saying that I should just continue hammering links to make it look regular, but here I read that I should slow down?

I absolutely and totally regret purchasing those links now.

Strange that they took effect so quickly though, you wouldn't expect them to get indexed so quickly.

Oh well. What's my recovery plan?

Any help or estimated time scale would be appreciated.

Yeah for sure that's a mistake 28K links for completely new site ..

However what is done is done ..

Now focus on getting quality links. Web 2.0 properties with Original content Not scraped, High PR backlinks, some wikis, social bookmarks etc.. but get them slowly and every day or two ..

Also add some new original quality content to the site and build some backlinks to it.

Btw. you can expect to drop more before start to recover but just don't panic and keep buiding quality links

Good luck

Don't worry its a new site. . . with very little invested. . . just get a new one . . and start again. Let that one ride and write it off as a growing pain. . if it comes back. .then you will have 2 sites on the serps.

also use a different hosting IP.

It's not possible, the domain name is important, as it's my keyword also.

Like I said, this isn't SEO for the sake of SEO, I just did this to promote my business. Like anything I do, I try to do it to the fullest, hence my presence here.

Throwing the domain away and starting again seems a little strong.

Thanks for the advice, Georgi, I'll do what you say.

Funnily enough, I as already doing everything you mentioned. Should have just stuck with that rather than trying to short cut it at the same time!

Thanks for taking the time to help me, I really appreciate it.

I didn't say throw it away. . you may have set off some filters to start dropping your rankings. . putting 28k links on a new site. . i dunno . . you maybe busted for that.

What i am saying is this. .
Say i was you and wanted to rank for

'henderson landscaping company'

i bought 'hendersonlandscapingcompany.com' and i spammed it . . not sure if i sank the domain or not. I'd try some methods to bring it back

BUT

at the same time i would get a second hosting buy a site like 'hendersonlandscapecompany.com' and work on that one with my new knowledge of what to do and what not to do . .

this way . . if the original site comes back . . GREAT. If it doesn't the second site is now ranking. . .

if BOTH RANK even better. . now i got two serps . . and i push a link from the one to the other to secure it.

I'm saying diversify and mend your mistake rather than mull over that which you may or may not be able to fix.

i wouldnt get another domain just for this... just keep creating new content and quality backlinks over time..

You are tripping/setting off all kinds of filters... slow down, your site is still a very young baby. :)

28k... burn it with fire

i did the same for a new (1 month) old site and dropped off the radar. took a while to get back up... but eventually you do. just be prepared to wait a long ass time.

those bl's you got are shitty ones also.

I would recommend you add a new word to your mental thesaurus - 'Patience'

If I added a new word to my thesaurus, I would only do so if the word were a synonym of one I already knew the meaning for. I think you meant "dictionary".

Well done, though.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I really appreciate it.

It's jumping around a bit, Scroogle is reporting it between #37 and #41, and I assume it's going to drop lower.

If I keep adding quality content, is there a time frame I can expect to have the site return to high rankings?

I disagree with what is posted. I do not think building links that fast is a bad thing. AS LONG and you are doing it CONSISTENTLY and have some Diverse IPS and link types in there, it should not matter.

Google has no way to tell how well a new site will do. They can not penalize you for going viral. The main reason you will get a penalty is if you are not consistent, or you build alot of links, then stop.

Again that's just my opinion. I have plenty of new sites that I blast 10-20k links a day to for the first several months and never seen a issue.

Hmm, funny you say that man, because I did actually stop adding content to my site, and did slow down my link building last week, after an absolute flurry for about 7 days.

I didn't update my blog for the last 6 days, so maybe that has something to do with it. Just updated it now, I'll see if updating every day, along with re-written articles on tumblr and blogger directing to the article has any effect.

OK I do local, you've done the wrong thing but it's done.

Look up phpbuild's fantastic web 2.o list, create decent sites with as many as you can.
Grab a prog called article grabber,it's in the download section. The author, a member here, has themselves uploaded this, download give thanks and rep.
Grab some photography articles, spin and add the web 2.0's.
After a week or so do a manual article to each web 2.0 point most to your home page but some to inner pages.
In your situation I'd say 40 web decent web 2.o's minimum.

Blast the daylights out of the web 2.0's with scrapebox and other automated software.

Buy scrapebox, look for photography forums join them and put your link in your profile, again vary the page....blast these pages.

Oh and get a google places listing it has a way higher conversion than organic.

You should recover quicker.

It's a newbie mistake, one seen often here people thinking more is better.
There is no need to update the site, most local business sites are not updated and google knows this.I have alot of local sites #1 which haven't been touched for 2 years.
You've done this all wrong from the start,a new site I throw 50-100 found AA comments with pr1 or higher(thats why you need to buy scrapebox) daily directly to the site and slowly build up,once it is on the first page I build high PR links.I continually do some form of link building to all my sites so it will be VERY difficult to get knocked off #1.
Stopping link building is a mistake regardless where you rank,it's a continual process.

I have sites with 25 links ranking #1,it's what's pointing to those 25 links!

Read the forums over and over I learn everyday ,I add a twist to everything I learn and I test daily as well.
There are some incredible techniques however you will not find them shared simply because people use the info the wrong way and mess it up for everyone.

Do the above you're site will come back no problem.I have never had a site dance, just a nice upward climb.
