First meeting with potential client on Friday!!

Something that I have found is when it comes to the price is approach it like this:

Ask them how much leads they get from yellowboook or other advertising? Of course they will say zilch then you ask them to take a small portion of that marketing budget and try your services out for 6 months. After the first 6 months you will re-evaluate the business and increase the price.

Works everytime. Its a lot easier to ask them to re-allocate money then to ask them to come up with "new" money.

Great info above. Be passionate when u speak about what you do. Also dont leave out what their competitors are doing which they are not doing and how you will help them do it better. Clients love it when you will hold their hand while going into combat ;)

Congrats on getting the meetings.

Now you only have to close the deals and get paid. Looks like you will get 2 maybe 3.

Can I ask why you choose upfront full payment instead of a "set up fee" and a monthly maintenance fee? To me that would hold more promise for a long term client "afraid to end the service" that his ranking would drop.

But again good going out and getting the face to faces.

Offer free service for first 5-6 client and give them your best to get some testimonial. Then you can charge your client whatever you want but it also need to be specific.

Give them some extra. Build a good relation with all of the clients. Then Boom Boom .. then things will run autopilot.

Well done! You really need to be careful about taking on cheapskates (like the dentist you mentioned). I had a similar client and ended up doing way too much work for $1200. I allowed $600 upfront to reduce the client's risk, but he wanted a ton of changes. Sometimes, it's just not worth it, especially if you have other potential clients lined up.

What else is in these "packs" filled with green army men that you send? Looks like it's converting fairly well... How many did you send total so far?

I just place your message here so people can read it. If that is not OK with you then let me know. This is so people do not waste time on the google doc.

Ysrayl's story

I met with the dentist at 8am on Friday. I wanted to make a good impression, so I made sure to have a few things with me:

1. A "padfolio" from wal-mart (basically a leather portfolio with a notepad and a business card holder inside.

2. An SEO report card of his site (I just did a search for "free seo report" on google)

3. A printout of the google search results for the most lucrative keyword

4. SEO proposal from Taktical's thread

5. SMM proposal from Tactical's thread (the dentist mentioned he wanted to get info out on facebook & twitter so I printed this out also)

6. Client Assessment worksheet from the WSO, "Calvin Merrick Poor Mans Offline Consultants Forms Kit"

7. Google keyword tool printout

8. A printout from Google Analytics website (just an info page explaining what google analytics is to show that all the metrics will be recorded and I will keep the client updated regularly)

9. A printout from Klout (same as #8)

I shaved the night before. Wore a suit & tie with a leather jacket. Tied my locks in a ponytail. Popped a piece of Winterfresh in my mouth. I was just too cool and professional-looking!

The dentist turned out to be a sceptic and a bit of a cheapskate, so I told him I would list him in Google Places and make sure he stayed there for 90 days for $1100 upfront. He agreed to pay me next Friday, we shook hands, and I left. I went home to take a nap before my meeting with the gynecologist, and was awaken by a phone call. It was the dentist. He said, "You should never pay anyone up front. Let's do this instead: I'll pay half on Wednesday, and the other half in 60 days. That way the money will motivate you to 'do your job', and I want you to really stay on top of sending me regular updates blah blah blah"

Basically he was tryin to dictate shit, which is so not how I roll. I was half-asleep, so I told him I would consider and call him another time. I'm going to tell him he can pay me $700 now, and $400 in 30 days for a 60-day contract. OR he can give me $650 for a 30 day contract. If he asks about the original deal I will say, "I found fault with our original deal. It really wasn't fair to me, and you also seem to have found fault with it. Since we both have found fault with that offer, I think it's best to throw it out, don't you?" I don't care. I'm not working for Negative Nancy for 90 days. For $1100? NO WAY (I have $0 in my pocket, and am surviving on $67 weekly unemployment checks, and $200 foodstamps/monthly)

I was supposed to meet with the OB-Gyn at 2:30, but ended up waiting in the lobby for over an hour, only to wait another 20 minutes in an examination room. When I finally met the doctor, he had a nurse sit in with him (she was too fine. a straight up MILF! but that's kinda off topic..) We spoke for a while, and decided we would have a second meeting next Friday at noon. I left the client assessment worksheet with him to fill out (I will calculate his ROI in the next meeting) and he wrote down a list of keywords he would like to target (amazing. not 1 keyword targeted the area. basically a bunch of pelvic ailments and fem probs. this should tell you how much these people know about what we do). He also asked me to email him so website designs (I told him I would design his website for free if we decided to work together). There's tons of free WP themes on Blackhatworld, that I will email to him after posting this. This looks like it's going to be a sale also ;)

As I was in the meeting, I got a call from an unfamiliar number. On the way out, I returned the call and it was a plastic surgeon who I had also sent a pack to. He thought it was "intriguing stuff". We agreed to meet Tuesday at 4:45.

I placed a green army man in the packs to increase the chances of the pack being opened. The surgeon was curious about it. The OB-Gyn saw the army man and thought people were "coming after" him lol.

All in all, this all looks very promising for me! I owe it all to Blackhatworld. I don't have many posts in the short time I've been a member, but that's because I've been too busy applying what I read. Wish others would do the same. It's as simple as getting up and doing it.

Sounds really good! Keep on the good work and I am sure you will see great results. Just make sure you are not crawling on the ground for your clients. I already see that you are not doing that, which is good. Be nice, but do not let them fool you around.

Great to read your story and sure it will be an inspiration to a lot of people here!

But again good going out and getting the face to faces.

He asked what I normally charge for the full IM suite (SEO, Map placement, SMM) and I said a low figure would $2200/mo. He said he wouldn't be able to afford my services because his budget is more like $2500/yr. So I told him I would put him in Google Places for 1 keyword and make sure he stayed there for 90 days for $1100. I did this because it is no problem to keep him in Google Places once I have him ranked there. The area I'm targeting is my home town, and whoever is doing SEO for these other business are out of their league when I step on the field. Why? Because of Blackhatworld!

Today I went back by his office to talk to him about the ludicrous offer he made me. I left a note with the receptionist that said:

"Hi Dr. Scott,

Unfortunately, I am can not agree to the offer you made me Friday. But not because I don't like you. I have to pay my outsourcers to get this operation started, and $550 will not leave much money in my pocket. What I can do is $800 up front, and $300 in 30 days. 60 day contract. I also will target 3 keywords for you, instead of just 1. Give me a call.

-name"

Waiting to hear back from him now.

My fathers slaved for this wicked nation for 430 years, and were treated very harshly if they even mentioned the word "free". Why should I give my oppressors so much value for nothing in return? I live in a country that is supposed to be "land of the free", but my people are not even considered human by the doctrine of this land, so the "free" part doesn't apply to us. At least when we were held in bondage in Mitsraim(egypt), we had a prophet to free us from Pharoah's hand.

"Free" stuff for nations that seek to crush the seed of Abraham, Yitshaq, and Ysrayl? Lmao, you were obviously jokin.

No way am I gonna dance my ass off for peanuts lol. Like you said, sometimes it just isn't worth it.

As for what I had in the packets; I found the free download for this WSO:

hxxp://www(dot)warriorforum(dot)com/warrior-special-offers-forum/291544-amazing-google-maps-placement-letter-quite-simply-works-oodles-proof-inside.html

I bought a bunch of plastic "report covers" from Wal-Mart to give the packs a more professional look. It did cost a lot more, but I think it's worth it. Since I'm not running around givin stuff away for free like some noob, I have to make myself appear like a true professional who's been doing this for 5+ years(not 2 months). I've sent 48 packs total. It wasn't a cheap operation, and I only got 3 calls from it because people in this town are such cheapskates, but signing 1 client will more than repay me for what I invested.

After I have these clients signed, I will go to a nearby city 100mi away, get a phonebook & newspaper, and start over in that city whilst working for the clients in my hometown. I plan to just go from city to city and run this campaign to get as many clients as I want.

Sounds really good! Keep on the good work and I am sure you will see great results. Just make sure you are not crawling on the ground for your clients. I already see that you are not doing that, which is good. Be nice, but do not let them fool you around.

I hope my fellow noobs will just follow the steps I took. It was VERY SIMPLE, but it was not an overnight process like I thought it would be. It took me a month to do this, partly because of the amount of money I spent to make it happen while relying only on $67 unemployment weekly.

My success thread should be up in a month or so :D

Im really excited seeing this thread because I feel it directly relates to what I want to start this month. I've already found some good tips and new sources. Out of interest, is there an alternative to

6. Client Assessment worksheet from the WSO, "Calvin Merrick Poor Mans Offline Consultants Forms Kit"

that we can use.

What are you basing your pricing structure on or is it some arbitrary figures that you chose?

Why do you need an alternative? Just d/l the thing. The link is:

Basically, I didn't calculate the ROI beforehand because I don't know what their average sale is, average industry markup etc.

Whenever I'm asked what kind of ballpark their looking at, I say, "Well, no two campaigns aren't the same. It would really depend on quite a few things, but off the top of my head, I'd say a job like this would be around... $2200/mo with a $750 retainer(start-up) fee."

This is just for local SEO. If the prospect makes it clear that they want more, I factor that in as well. I basically just get a number that's more than I am willing to accept, so I can have room to add services, or drop the price as "incentive" without beating myself.

The dentist called me back about 45 minutes ago and agreed to my offer of $800 upfront, and $300 in 30 days for a 60-day Google Map placement campaign.

He even said if I impress him, there will be a bonus in it for me. You see that? He went from trying to call the shots to promising me bonuses if I deliver! :D

Today I got my first check for $800 from the dentist! And I also had another dentist call to set up a meeting with me.

I still have to meet with the Plastic Surgeon today. This is the best thing that's happened to me in quite a while. And I owe it all to Blackhatworld!

I met with the plastic surgeon today. Went really well. He eventually asked me about ROI and I whipped out the calculator and showed him what he could expect. He said he mostly does botox($400) and lipo($3500), so I showed him ROI for just botox. I used the smaller number to show a bare minimum. I told him conversion rate is around 4%-6%, but I calculated with a 2% conversion rate (this really impressed him as the number came out at over $6k).

He told me to draw up a proposal and drop it by his office. He's interested is and is going to see where he can make budget cuts to afford my services.

I told him I could do:

-20% off of the usual $900 retainer fee ($720)

and

-$1800/mo for SEO

once again, thank you Blackhatworld!

Here's where you got it right and others have floundered:

You value your time and understand that there's a price to be paid for your expertise. Meet your prospects from a position of power - you have something they need, all you need to do is show them what they're losing and you've kicked the door open.

Good job Ysrayl, way to hang in there and follow through.

Firstly well done for taking the decision to make this work.

Could you go into a little bit more detail on how you would estimate the ROI please.

Thank you, trubnut.

When calculating ROI, I meant to follow the steps given in the Taktical thread. It went something like:

K= # of Keywords
CTR= Click Through Rate (0.1)
T=Traffic
ACPC= Average Cost Per Click
V= Visits
CR= Conversion Rate (0.12)
R= Revenue
C= Cost
LV= Lifetime Value of Customer

PPC ROI Calculations

V= T x CTR
R= V x CR x LV
C= ACPC x K
PPC ROI = ((R - C)/ C) x 100

SEO ROI Calculations

V= T x CTR
R = V x CR x LV
C = 12months Cost / 12
SEO ROI = ((R - C) / C) x 100

-------

But I was running late for all my meetings (my clock runs on what you call "n***a time"), so what I did was printed out a picture of the pie graph from hxxp://www(dot)reactorr(dot)com/tools/seoroi.php, and calculated roi this way:

for calculating roi for the plastic surgeon..

2,000 monthly (broad) searches for this niche
$400 average cost per sale (low end vigure [botox])

total number of monthly visits x average sale price (2,000 x 400=800,000)
42.13%(#1 google spot ctr) of 800,000 is 337,040 (800,000 x .4213)
2% of 337,040 = conversion rate (337,040 x .02 = 6740.80)

so the roi I showed him was $6,740.80.

I printed the graph out so I could show him where my ctr #'s were coming from. I also made a point to tell him conversion rate is around 4%-6%, but I would only calculate for 2% conversion rate to show a bare minimum. You can adjust those numbers anyway you like to make the roi look juicier. Just stay within the realm of reality.

Out of curiosity...did your client indicate how often they get the telemarketing offering SEO services call?

Great job on getting this guy hooked up.
