when I get depressed I want to to go outside and be left alone. I have a friend that has been depressed for a long time and she just shuts the world out. depression sucks. it is very common to want to be left alone. That being said, it,s also a time that you (the depressed person) should reach out. It's really hard though.

friends that go the extra mile like you are very much needed, but not always do depressed people see that at a given time. Not sure why the police didn't track him down with his cell phone. provided he had it (and it was on and or charged), but they should try again (could be charged now), if his phone is not at home.

I had to be hospitalized due to depression. I was out where I would not be found, only to find if you are suicidal the police will track your cell phone. It didn't take the police very long to find me. I can tell you this. when my depression gets real bad - drugs and alcohol get involved (a place to look?).

Thanks Digital man. Your insight is very helpful and kind. Thing is though, he has no cash (the police checked his bank, no activity for three weeks), not been to work, not been home. Phones off (battery maybe dead). Where do you draw the line between helping and leaving someone alone? Is it common to have a depression episode so long? The 1st that came in my mind is that you should go and check your local hospitals..
Facebook is best at told by our bhw buddies...
And one of the most important thing is that people feel very lonely these days, no one have time for anyone.
If you find him try to be with him most of the time in needs !!!

I've seen ads by PIs offering to locate anyone in the US if you have their cellphone number. It may be of dubiuos legality what they are doing behind the scenes, and it may be expensive, but if you have his/her number, and if the phone is on, it sounds like it might be worth it. I don't have any links sorry but you could google and find folks offering the service I'm sure.

Go see a psychic and bring something of his that he may have touched often or is important to him.

This is just an out of the box idea and might actually bring you to some other ideas.

You should use social media like Twitter and Facebook and see if you can't get other people to post a photo as well... eventually someone who knows someone might have seen him

You could print out flyers with pictures of him/her on them and post them in high traffic areas.

You could also get access to his/her PC and see what your friend has been up to before they went missing. Also check your friends room for clues ... They always leave a clue!

I had a friend that would do this. This is how I found her, brain storming. Won't go into detail but I can relate.

not sure where to draw the line. also please note I said he needs to reach out. friends and family need to help, sure. but he needs to be receptive. I wish I could answer where to draw the line. the friend I mentioned has me asking the same question. I really get it.

as for how long. Depression is a cr*p shoot as far as doctors go. they guess what drugs to use ,and change them often. it's a real s*ck ride.

Here is idea though. talk to the doctor. you said he is talking meds. with meds comes small groups. the doctor should be able to plug into the small group he might have been in. you make new friend there ( good and bad). and the stories you hear in those groups are really something. It is possible he has a new friend from the group that he does not talk about outside of group.

So mention the cat to the doctor. it's a reference to the cat, it's gone? where is it? The cat might have come up in group. Some people will remember the cat. pets- a total small group thing. So- also look for the cat. just trying to help. A depressed person will care for the cat more than themselves. Cats can come up in this. (did he own the cat before depression?)( does someone in group now have the cat?).


I am not a cat fan,(still -one in the house though). but this is not something that should not be overlooked---- the doctor should know this detail.

I am learning a lot from BHW. this is not why I am here, but it is something that I can share. For now. really working on a share that is the intended focus of the web site though ( thank you meathead for your shares).

Hey Digital Man. Thanks again for your knowledge on this subject, your time and experience. I'm going to look into the doctor issue today. I'm not sure how much info the doctor is legally (or ethically for that matter) allowed to disclose, but certainly everything is worth a try in this situation. Also thanks for asking me to PM you when I find out what is going on. Your support is very much appreciated and I will let you know the outcome as soon as I have news. You don't like cats? Damn!
