Hey guys..

I've been creating backlinks to my blog.

I recently signed up with Social Monkee and the guy who created that was saying that unless you go to the effort of pinging all your backlinks they are kind of useless because the search engines won't pick them up.

Is this really true?

Does a bear shit in the woods? If Google doesn't know the links exist then it can't count it for you. So unless you see the shit you don't know if a bear really does shit in the woods.

Pinging only gets it crawled quicker. The search engines regularly crawl sites to add to their index. Either way it will get indexed. Patience is a virtue at times.

Yeah but if you didn't actually see the bear shit how are you to know it is really bear shit??? LOL

I never ping my links. I prefer to let google find them naturally.

The guy from social monkee is a dick with a crap product

Remember if you walk in the woods, carry bells and pepper spray -- black bear poop has insects and berries in it, Grizzly poop willhave has small bells in it and smell like hot pepper spray. Thats how you know if the bear used the woods!
And should I ping the pings that i pinged the 2.0 site with?
Sorry, I just let em wait, google will find them and it looks a lot more natural that way.

Poor innocent animal, condemned to resist the urge while we come to an agreement on its case.

So... does it or doesn't?

Well of you go in the woods just to check out the bear-shit matter, and in that moment a bear comes at you the best thing to do is climb a tall tree and cover yourself with shit - and if you're wondering what shit - oh there will be, don't worry. ;):D
So now that the bears and shit and woods problem is settled - a little on topic.
You are asking are backlinks that are not pinged useless - i think they could not be considered useless, because they have a high chance of eventually being crawled and indexed by googl's spiders. So with this in mind I think it is a matter of impact of pinged backlinks over non-pinged ones. The pinged ones will have effect faster but the self-pinged ones will appear more natural. - my thoughts on the matter

You need to not just get ur backlinks crawled, but also indexed...or else all your backlinking efforts will be in vain..

i ping the shitty links that google probably won't index - mass social bookmarks, etc

but for quality links (squidoo lenses, for example) i don't even bother because they'll get indexed eventually

here's a link of about 900 pingable sites that have a domain of pr1+ that you can run through scrapebox

Hum, i will respectfully disagree with some of you guys.

As a shitty linker producer (which still works btw) i'd rather not ping them and let them beeing indexed by google naturally, it looks more natural.

ALthough, it can take up to 3 months for google to start paying attention to them but they will eventually.

High quality backlinks are meant to be pinged even though Jared scores a point, they WILL be indexed whatever you do.

So no i don't ping my links and so far so good.

KEY IS LINK DIVERSITY and shitty links belong to link diversity

I don't ping my backlinks. Also it depends on your backlink as well if its kinda xrumer profile backlinks then there is a need for it to be pinged as there are a lot lesser chances of it getting indexed as compared to a backlink which is sitting on a high pr domain or web page.
I prefer using linklicious for my backlinks to get crawled, it helps for spideriong the backlinks.

Anything you can do to help a backlink get indexed is worthwhile. Backlinks built are worthless unless they get found.
