Weather here in UK is just Horrible, thinking about Moving to philippines For some 4-5months while the Summer comes here Again.
Mainly because of december-june weather season and because everything is SOO Cheap!
Brb Renting out 10bdr Mansion for $500/month , brb Hills of food in restaurant $2/meal , brb Live-in Maid $30/month

But Im a bit worrying since its super cheap third world country- isn't everything there Dirty And stuff like that?
Anyone been there or know someone who has been there and can share how is life there?

been to caves??? Philippines is not dirty and not soooo cheap as what you are describing..

there's no way you can get this here..

My advice. Don't come here anymore just to EXPLOIT and UNDER ESTIMATE us because after Filipinos have read your post, Surely We will welcome you with BIG EXPLOSIVE BOMBS on your walkway.. or snipers to shot your brain out of your head.

I can feel the love vibrating from your post glad the people I employ in the philippines are polite and not hostile at all....

And in regards to the op I have family that run one of my call centers in the Philippines its a very beautiful place and the cost of living is very affordable but not as cheap as you describe.

Philippines is big. Being a third-world country means that you can expect some dirty places like you think you'll find in such kind of country but in actuality, they were limited to only some special areas.

And yeah, it is cheap here considering if you compare it with your country. So, it is best that you bring your own money here.

Good luck.

I know I know it's not THAT cheap but in terms of where I live it's REALLY cheap!

If you dont want to be hit by tsunamis, come here in mindanao.lol But all i can say, a lot of my clients really wanted to visit Philippines, some of them already visited here it is because they know this country is really beautiful.

Da*n man! Anywhere in the world there will be always a dirty place! did you watch hoarders on History channel? I promise you can't see even 1 house like that the one you see on Hoarders(History Channel Show) here in the Philippines!

FYI Philippines haven't yet hit by a tsunami that hard...

A friend of mine rents a 1-bedroom condo unit in Makati for P14k (more than $300) a month. And that condo is not even first class. If you want a mansion for yourself for $500, I will cut my head off if you find one.

$2 for a meal? You want to eat in make-shift carenderias? Even a good meal in McDonald's will easily cost you $3 or more.

For maids, you won't find them $30 these days especially if you get them from maid agencies. You have to pay more than twice your budget.

I don't know who gave you these figures. Your informant must have been in the Philippines 30 years ago.

another ignorant comment. typhoons/storms hit us many times in a year. i know a tsunami is very much different from a typhoon?

I just know they get hit by tsunamis a lot.

Hi Tom, If you want to come here in the Philippines. I suggest try going to cebu. We have less typhoons here and everything is cheaper than Manila. Everything is 15 minutes - 1 hour drive Like beaches, malls, bars, nature, cheap five star hotels. And you will not worry your about your security here. We have less crime and no terrorists unlike mindanao and manila.

Normally, I dont do this ...but since all the replies to your thread are rubbish except for 1...I'ma go ahead and keep the party going..

FACTS:

- No such thing as $500 10 Bedroom Mansions for rent. Closest thing to that is in Makati (Manila) in a sub-section called "Forbes Park" ..its a popular section for foreigners ..Filipinos arent not even allowed to step ground there without proper paper and clearance...More Bel Air, than Beverly Hills...Theyve got "compounds" for rent..8 Bedroom house, sauana, indoor/outdoor pool...Guest house on property... $7,000 a month...NOT $500 ..Im sure you can those mysterious $500 properties in the Proviences or "country"...but would a "CA-NO" (Thats what they call us) ..want to live in the woods, by himself, around people who think he has a billion dollars in a safe in his home...

SERIOUSLY .. 3 Bedroom, OceanView...2 Bath...22nd Floor Condo in the "Marriot" about ... $1000 - $1,200 monthly..3 Bedroom in Mabolo (Cebu) same deal, non oceanview but private walkaround balcony...$800....If you on a budget you can get a 1 Bed for $500 or so if needed...

FOOD - IS CHEAP...$2 meals, $5 Lobsters..and that is true...but you'll get tired of it fast...Pizza Hut, Coke, Pepsi, Mc Donalds..etc are all not the same...and are nothing compared to back home..a Big Mac has a patty on it as thin as a sheet of paper..

Live in MAID - I was paying $25 a month + $20 a month for her quarters downstairs.

LABOR - CHEAP .. $5 per day, I was paying my people...I met an "big time" ATT exec over there...his take home...was $600 a month :) ...so thats were you are really at an advantage..

BOTTOM LINE - Few months of play, few months of business are cool...but if you are still young, OR have anything of interest going on back at home...you will get tired and not stay long. At one point and time, I was looking at land on the beach..was going to build a house, and blah blah blah...Beachfront and built for less than 300K, not bad at all. But, I couldnt do it...the people and country will drive you crazy..

Good luck, go there...meet some women, make some money...it is an experience..

this is quite a funny thread. everyone's chippin in with their own take of "the philippines". i'm a filipino btw and if you want to truly find out why not just pack up your bags and go? there are places and people to love, places and people to not so love. same as all over the world. we have our own flavor in our own little niche. of course people from other countries won't feel "at home". that's why they are called foreigners. would be the same for filipinos living in other countries.

i like the reply about aircons only in hotels and internet only in cafes. quite funny really.

want the best advice? pack your bags and go. travel the world. enjoy stuff. if you're just looking for something cheap, even china will have upscale places only a few can afford.

ps: a lot of filipinos can be overtly sensitive about the philippines and on being filipinos. just ignore the violent reply from the earlier posts. if you're here and you're friendly enough, filipinos will love you back just like a member of their family.
