gonna have to say that's a bad idea. proxy hosts have highly abused cpu's so your proxy will load slowly and have a much weaker "viral" effect. best idea is a vps.

There aren't many VPS providers that will allow a proxy script. Till now there is no VPS setup that completely isolates CPPU usage so by a way or another if someone is hogging CPU, he will affect other VPSes on the server.

A shared hosting that allows proxies is a good start for newbies or websites that get light traffic. A dedicated is the next step skipping VPS.

I'm just giving advice based on my vast and endless experience :D. You can get a vps with cpanel at $20 that will give you a better bang for your buck in comparison to shared proxy hosting (I've tried proxy hosts) but be sure to check if the VPS provider allows proxies first.
 
how much you get payed per click on infolinks?

i was getting $0.009 a click and was not worth my time.

depends on the niche of the click. they payout like $1 for clicks on debt/loan ads etc like how it would work on adsense (a bidding system).
 
But what was your average cpc?

Infolinks pays like shit, like 1% of an adsense click so it's hard to believe....
 
Got one question - How did you drive that amount of traffic? Just having setup a proxy site doesn't get you traiffic, so, what or how did you get the traffic?

Good, for that hardware is not much important but your internet connection should be supper fast and power that can alive your server for 24/7.
 
Setting up a proxy at home is not a good idea. Better get a VPS. Used to run a few at a VPS without problems. By the way what is wbb????
 
Wow this thread just brings me back memory when i first started making money this was my very first money earned online.

Here are some tips i used , they might work they might not.

If you monetize with adsense you might want to remove the word proxy from the website and just stick a bunch of forex and insurance article that woudl drive you adsense clicks up. Then lock your proxy with a content gateway it would reduce your bandwidth and you woudl get probably 2-3 times more than adsense

Now back in the day i would launch my proxys with tech-faq.com vouchers, which got me a good ROI , now the proxy.org 5 dollar launch isnt as effective either.

Look it is not worth it if you are launching 1 proxy , what you want to do is launch like 10-20 proxies a day or even more and you would easily have a nice 20-50 dollar income. Remember once you launch and automate your proxies it gets easier ,and a lot easier when you have the auto submission script to the top sites in proxy which i had . So all i did technically was pay my submission at tech-faq.com for their front page

in otherwords, you are "adding" links to content from other pages?

For VPS proxy hosting, you can try HiVelocity or ServInt - I have run proxies on both providers during the past year with no issues.

And... there is still money in proxy sites - I've been running them for years and still do - thankfully the hosting costs keep a lot of people out, but once you get a site or two going you can still afford a dedicated box and make a good profit.
 
How much bandwidth would one proxy site use could you give an estimate after it's gone viral?
