I have a forum niche in mind , and I would like to launch a forum but Iam confused as to how can I get the initial momentum in the forum. I will be the only one posting threads :( . Any ideas?? this will help many who want to run forums..

I dont want yahoo answers posts as the niche I have in mind does not go well with content from yahoo answers

How about buy a domain, buy hosting and create the forum. And then SEO it?

I think you didn't get the point. neo3187 is asking about how to populate a the forum, not how to set it up.

Setting up a forum and doing SEO is not enough to get it started, if your forum is empty, no one will register and participate. You need to "pre-populate" it so it looks active already if you want real people to sign up and start conversing.

True that most forum populator software are only based on yahoo answers content, but I remember I have seen some forum software that scrape the content from other forums in the same niche, although I can't remember any the name to get you some direction...
All I can say right now is, what you're looking for actually does exist ! :D

You need to find something to offer the users of your forum. This can be anything in the form of downloarable content to physical goods.
Try something that will save the user time or money.

What is the yahoo answers oone ccalled? been thinking about doing something like thsi for a while too :-)

Ive got a forum had it a few months, i set it up for my son as he likes games the private server type, ive got it ranking with my xrumer in neally 30 keywords all in top 10 but because no one post and its a very quite forum you get a lot of visits but like 1 it 500 sighup and 1 in 1000+ post something

Very hard to get it active which is a shame

cyrusvirus I went through ur thread yesterday, my eyes lighted up untill i read that even you are using yahoo answers for most of the job :( .... I was thinking of making some useful posts myself and making a fanpage on it and advertising the fanpage on FB

Like Cyrus said, then are there some pretty cool services around to get you started.

you would be suprised at what i can do actually. but like i said in my post over there. i don't just use that, here is the method simply put:

Keywords input,

post, replies, usernames are scraped from 12 websites of my choice.

replies and post are spun, then stored,

before it is posted to your site, it is spun again

so therefore , you have content that is actually spun twice.

i wouldn't grab straight from yahoo .. and not just yahoo alone.
that would just be stupid and unsatisfatory.

Ok then I believe it would be a good idea to setup the forum and sprinkle some initial very useful posts/threads as me(admin) and then buy your service, so that even if there are some irrelevant posts, it wouldnt make the forum look weak...

well how is this, contact me via pm, ill set up a trial of my work.. in fact i will add a trial to my sales thread just to prove the work, and if you don't like it, then you can order from someone else. i would not feel bad about that at all. after all, it is you, as the owner of the forum, that makes all
of the decisions.
so try it out for free. and see how you like it.

I've started up 2 very successful forums, they're both very active.

You need to populate the forum by yourself, create 20 profiles and copy and paste threads + answers from other forums. Leave some threads without answers to make people signup and answer.
You can change the thread subject to maximize se-traffic.

Go to google blog search and type in something related to your forum. Post comments and just place your url in the website-field, people will come.

I used this method to start up both my forums. One of the forums got 25k+ members, the other in the diet-niche got 2,5k. :)

I think you have a valid point. A big problem with a new forum is, that it looks weak, so the bounce rate will be huge.

If you have a decent amount of forum posts, with the help from a service like Cyrus offer, then will your forum not look empty and dead.

What kind of forum software do you use?

Iam planning to use VB, cracked ofcourse, till now I have been working with wordpress and dont have much idea about which forum plugins are good and all that... do you have any suggestions about plugins which would make it strong seo-wise and also make sharing on FB and twitter easier??

One thing some people do is they pay people to register and post on their forums to help pre-populate their forum and make it seem active so people will join. I've seen people pay like 25 cents per post.
