Pimping out my Thai ex girlfriend

33 000 THB i would not call that neat but for 100 000 you be more then ok.

Okay, not to jump the thread.. .

My brother in law just got married in Thailand and came back to the us with his new bride. His parents had to pay her parents like $10,000 us dollars in order to get married and they paid for the whole marriage..

Personally, I think they got screwed, but my BIL kept telling them that was their culture and he loved her.

Is this normal?

You really have to immerse yourself in another culture to understand it. Some, not all, Thais do work on the dowery system. Depends on the family. But yes, some (again, not all) parents/brides will ask for a dowery from the husband-to-be (regardless if he is Thai himself or a foriegner). The dowery is shown at the wedding ceremony to show the family's 'face' to the community that they raised a good daughter who is worth money that is being repaid back to the family in exchange for the girl to leave the family instead of stay and provide for her parents. She may continue to send money home monthly that the new husband may or may not contribute to, as well.

WTF... I need to get off here and go make some money. Thai girls are very hot. Come to Thailand. the end.

Honest, I started making 30,000 baht a month doing IM for a production company here. Got a raise up to 40k/month. Woohoo. I believe you can live alright for $1,000 USD a month in Thailand. Bangkok is more expensive. Now, if you go clubbing, bar hoping, special massage parlors, and freelancers or gogo bars a few nights a week. Then no, you need more. It depends on your life style. Just like anywhere else in the world. Do you want a huge condo in a central location or a studio apartment on the outskirts. same same - but different.

ITs not high season yet however I hear Pattaya has been pretty crap for all lately financially

I watch some videos from Pattaya and I fall in love... My next summer definitely will be there! :)

Yes Pattaya is crap now for all now well not for people who want to get cheap girls. But i am very tired of Thai girls anyway i had enough of them lol. Fall in love in Pattaya? You mean the girls right?

Never mindwhere I travel abroad I always pay more than the average salary, this ebcause it increases my chances of a better service and better experience, the hired person shares the extra knowledge and goes the extra mile for me.. :)

So I do not care about how poor this people is, but how rich I am in comparable to them. if 44 usd means peanuts to me for a full day guide I will pay the girl if in the first interview i conclude she is worth it, I do not feel myself scammed but being a descent person who cares about my similar efforts!!

that stupid thinking of paying accord to the nation income has create the huge canyon between rich and poor. I am just trying to build a bridge here at least for some.

will 44 usd or even 100 break my bank?? hell nooooo..!!

Dave.

can you guarantee that she's female. don't want any surprises. :D

Lexmark good thinking thats what i been trying to say to some here. Profile ohhh i know you want it....

If you have to pay more for better service your doing something wrong. Paying more to employees means something, more loyalty to you. But to service industry people means nothing, especially when your talking about base pay.

Thanks for the guide. I will like to be there after my current Caribbean travel.

This should be in the BST section. :D . On a serious note you are seriously expecting a sale from this forum???

Put her on ebay ,

Anyways if you have a review copy i would like to take one. Just turned 18 :)

Sure there will be a bidding war from royalmice also haha

Well, Yes it is. Money play say different role in Thai culture, so basically if you spend some time in Thailand before get married at some point it will occur to you, exceptions is rare, amount is negotiable :) it should not be less then 100k THB however.

They wouldn't have asked for $10,000 if she'd been marrying a Thai man. Actually, they might have asked, but they'd have accepted <$1000.

royalmice right, salary in Thailand suck **** big time. Thais also work much longer daily then farangs do, they also have just one day off weekly, but it is applied to general public after school. Despite the fact that Thai educational system sucks same same way, if you get better position in the company even being Thai your salary will go up, in some cases it may double or even triple, I knew someone started with regular salary and within 2 years get different position in the company as well as almost doubled salary, company now pay his medical insurance as well, etc.

So it is true, you can get ppl down there for cheap, but can u actually rely on them for this lil money?! I seriously doubt that. Thais with lil salaries usually very irresponsible. So I'd say if someone reliable want to provide some assistance for say 20 extra bucks a day I think it may worth consideration.

LOL @ 2000B/day

for 2000B/day you should have a team of 3 ppl working for you, a driver+car, a pro tour guide and a "special service girl"

All that for 2000thb per day? Maybe in Issan and only if the "special service girl" was the quadriplegic kind of special.

Great thread to gauge the going rate for things in Thailand.

I'm planning to go and visit at some point in the near future. Threads like these are great and get me even more mpumped up.
