Hello all,

[if this is not the right place for this thread, let me know where to move it]

I was ranking #1 for certain keywords at Google. I had between 90-120 visitors per day.

However i noticed that the Exit rate in almost all of my pages, was more than 80%. So i rewrote everything, the whole content of every page. At some pages i even changed the Title:

Forget about Depression ==> Depression Treatment|mp3 Albums |

secret Stress ReliefTechniques ==> Stress Relief |mp3 Albums

the url of each page has remained INTACT [No changes]. Most of my pages where pr 2 -3. And they still are

Since i did it, the Exit Rate dropped down to 12% [Wgich means my previous content was c.r.a.p]. For a few days the visitors increased to 150.

HOWEVER,

since yesterday, i getting 4-6 visits per day.
I am on page 7, 11 , 16 for they keywords i was ranking #1 for.

I thought my site's pr went down. Which is not the case. Nor the pr of each page haw changed.

Could you please let me know how to correct this?

[Putting back the OLD content is not an option ==> IT WAS C.R.A.P]

Is there any way that a competitor is messing with my site? if yes, how did they do it? and dwaht do i do about it?

Thanks for your thoughts

well my experience, is that everytime I update the webpage it moves in ranking.
just keep on building backlinks

You changed your TITLES and CONTENT. Google doesn't like that (especially changing TITLES).
What was you thinking? Never fix pages that already rank N1.

That doesn't make sense to me. Most blog pages change their titles with every new post. That doesn't kill their PR. Or am I misreading what you're saying?

lol if they were number one why did you even touch them... they were number one cz big G thought they deserved to be num 1... but you changed everything and took that reason of ranking you on top away from goog...

PR only updates a few times a year so checking it will do you no good right now, but that isn't really your issue. When you change everything about your site the search engines are going to have to re-rank you based on your new content. The titles are important so you definitely want to have your target keywords in them. You also should be checking your on-page SEO for the new pages compared to the old ones. Even though the old content was garbage, it was obviously doing something right whether it was the keyword density percentage, H1 tags, bold, underlines, etc.. I would be trying to duplicate the mechanics of the old pages as much as possible.

Title tags should be static on every individual page in your blog. Titles do not change on your homepage or any other page just because you add a post. The new post gets the new title to go along with it on it's individual URL.

You got it all wrong, mate :D Maybe it's my English...

I am having a site [old style] NOT a blog

1. THE REASON I CHANGED CONTENT + TITLES

the exit rate was more than 80%.
THe time spent at my site was 1.03 min
The pages i changed weere article pages IN MY SITE that i used to grab visitors, so they then moved to my products pages. Which was not happening.

After the change:

Exit rate dropped down to 12%
Time spent at site went up to 5:56 min
95% of visitors moved to my product pages and BOUGHT

2. CONTENT

The new content IS NOT unique content. I researched 50 sites and took a paragraph form one, a sentence from another, i did some paraphrasing myself.

i used copyscape and the results returned a matching 4 -15% to other sites i took the content from.
As i said i grabbed content from other sites and tried to changed it and mix it

3. i did post my problem at other forums, and some people say one thing, others say different. Anyways, some suggest that i am screwed cause i didnt use unique content and i copied it form other places and i am never comming back to top place.

Others suggest that if i change everything back to the way it was [CONTENT, PAGE TITLE], everything will return to the way it was, and there are other people who suggest that Google is reevaluating the site and in a few days i will come back to top place [i mean at least to be on first page would be great after this messup]

A few more thoughts:

4. So If you want to change the content of a page, how do you do it?

I had C.R.A.P and it didnt convert, so i decided to change the content and for the days that the site was working, it turned out to be the best thing i could have done.

5. Moreover, if you want to change the page title [NOT THE URL], cause you realize that you can rank better with different words how do you do it?

cause if you change it [CONTENT OR/AND PAGE TILE]and your page dissapears from the search engines, then what is the point of changing it?

What is the point of trying to make your site look better?
Cause all of us have realized that customers / people arent stupid. They want to read inteligent thoughts, persuasive thoughts. And since evolving is the one thing that can make us succed, keeping what you have, even though you know it is either crap, or not persuasive, or not intelligent thoughts, just because if do change it, you are gonna lose what you right now dont have ==> buying customers, then we are better off, going out to the movies, or for a cup of coffee, or do drugs, than bust our heads and butts and put the time and energy neeeded to succed

When you change something it needs to be revaluated again, from 0. It will take time and during that time your pages are set aside. Also it may not end well for your ranking.

I was experimenting with this before, took my most visited site, reworked the content completely, made it 5x better, added more useful hints, advices, removed every dupe stuff. The first 2 days the bounce rate went down 60%, then the webpage was put ~45 slots down (during the reevaluation I thought). It's been there for the last 2 years...

When you change content radically, it needs to be selected again amongst like 500 others. When you are already at the top, the algos usually don't compare it against more than 10-15 other sites.

I always make my first post a sticky on my blogs and SEO the title, keywords. content and tags. This keeps my title from changing and posts get indexed in the engines.

tl;dr;

You don't change stuff that's already working.

Guys,

thank you all for your suggestions.

A si said, i have changed 6 pages.

OLD CONTENT
The depth [MS Word] of each page varied. Some pages were 6 [Ms Word] pages long others 9 and others 11

NEW CONTENT
The depth [MS Word] of each page has quadrupled . Some pages are 16, 18, 31, or even 38 [Ms Word] pages long.

I guess the keyword destiny for each page has gone up 6 to 12 times.

Things i have done is changed the old page description to the new one.

Things i am working on right now:

Change the meta descriptio [page keywords], from the old ones to the new.

One more thing, as i said i have changed 6 pages up until now [i willbe changing another 25, in the next 3 months ==> Article pages].

HOWEVER,

not only the pages i have changed dissapeared from the G top page.

BUT ALSO

other pages, mostly product pages i was ranking kind of well, 1st or 2nd position on G 2nd page.

How is this possible?

Moreover,

i remember back on Oct 2010, out of the blue the same thing happened and lasted for 2 months. WITHOUT having made any changes at all to my site. Then on Jan 2010 all of my pages came back again at the rankings they had before October.

The only thing i can think of, is around Septeber, i went to all of my product pages and used "hidden keywords", to increase the keyword destiny.

If we assume, i got penaltized for this back on Oct. Then the punishment period ended on Jan. Am i being repunished for not having taken them out? And if yes,

isnt it a coinsidence that it is happening, as i change CONTENT and PAGE TITLES

Thanks

Poly

You fucked it all up by changing everything. There's nothing more to it than that. Live and learn, wait and see what happens, and build some more sites in the mean time.

You changed your content and you did a good thing. Google ranks using a LOT of factors but a big majority of that is the content and its so called relevancy. Make shure you have the keywords in the right place (the same ones you where ranking before) and do some backlinking.
Your site is being submited by google so dont worry, It will rank well soon

relax.. google is reevaluating your content and will place you where it thinks you should be ranked ay.

Did you maintain the same keyword density when you changed your page? That could sink you right there...

I have to agree with this. And say this, get your on page SEO perfect! Good content + good on page SEO + baclinks = top rankings.

You changed everything, yes Google is going to re-evaluate your site. It could take a couple of months to come back, but the changes you made worked. You had increases across the board and you were making sales. Don?t panic, build backlinks lots of them.
Learn from your mistake of putting up crapy content in the first place.
