the sandboxed myth

that tool (SEOmoves) says 2 of my sites are banned or never indexed - they're fine, all pages indexed a-ok, and one has a severe penalty - yet it's on page one for its main keyword pairing... Hmmm

Well I blasted 10k links to my doctor who site (watchdoctorwho.co.uk) and it's been sandboxed, if it's not and it's top of bing and yahoo what do u think the reason is? not trying to be smart actually wanna know lol. I was ranking 7th for watch doctor who in the uk and now i'm not in serps at all

I've never done so many links at once as my personal link building tactics are more link chain and pyramid based, so 10k links directly at a site is entirely unnecessary. At any rate, I'd have to make a thorough analysis of your site to get to the root of the problem.

See what I mean? lulzzzz......

The person who wrote that script clearly has no idea what they're doing.

hey OP , can you give us some creating backlinks tips?

Yes, spend more time reading this site.

Or buy links from me, heh..

i have heard some reputable people on here claim to have been de-indexed for up to 8 months. what are your thoughts on this?

Try to remember that you are on a site called BlackHatWorld. Many people here (not naming names of course) use some tactics that go directly against what is outlined in the Google TOS and then are surprised that they got banned. This forum is littered with people complaining about getting de-indexed, banned for life, their adsense accounts shut down and not getting paid.... and all the while their sites are full of scraped content (which is copyright infringement), javascript redirects or cloakers, they're shilling illegal prescription pills or illegal porn, or they simply don't know much about SEO to begin with. I mean, the list of mistakes goes on and on.

This isn't to say that it's not worth doing some of these things to some people cuz they've found that they CAN make money these ways. But, my advice is to stick to what's legal and what's not discussed in Google's TOS to avoid the issues.

Also, many people seem to forget that getting linked to from a bad site can't hurt you, but linking TO a bad site can. The philosophy is that you shouldn't be promoting anything illegal, full of malware or against the TOS.

Hope this helps.

Do you would adapt your SEO strategy if the tools tells you that you have a severe penalty (new site, not ranking for his keywords)?

It all makes sense for and I will tell you why: I read here and there about the sandbox but one thing that was a constant is what to do when you would get in such a sandbox: rewrite all your tags and modify keyword density. Plus most of them said do quality backlinking
So If the above are all done then it means that the person how got so called sandboxed would finally do quality seo on that particular site.

type this in google

site:google.com "-30 penalty"

and you will find 100-s of pages on google webmasters forum talking about google penalty

here is a link from Matt Cutts blog where he talks about link spam:

Like I haven't thought of that? Really?

Why don't YOU type that in and read the results. None of the results that I've found on page 1 have anything written by Google, only top contributors. And yes, I assert that most of them are paranoid and wrong. (Think about what kind of person posts to google asking for support anyway.. you want the real dirt, you should come to a site like BHW :D )

Re: Matt Cutts' linkspam blog post, he refers to sites selling links that pass Page Rank. That is different than selling links period, for one. And the banning happens to a site that offers the services, not the site that is receiving the services. Makes sense, and I dunno why anyone would want to rank for link brokering anyway, sortuva no-brainer that it'd raise a red flag..

So yea.. get your facts straight bucko! :P
Join the darkside and stop being so paranoid.

Exactly.

And then they would start to rank. No waiting to get out the sandbox cuz, well, there IS no sandbox, only a ranking algorithm that is based on relevancy.

In my personal opinion the sandbox is basically low trust. If google doesn't see any decent content worth ranking that isn't elsewhere and links really quickly being built it removes the site from serps until it gains trust. I don't believe you can damage someones site with links, it's the most ridiculous thing ever....just think about it.

As for believing matt cutts, of course he's going to say things that'll make people stop abusing google....

Tensegrity, what kind of pyramid do you use?
moneysite<-Tier1<-Tier2 ?

More tiers? Also how many per tier 1,2 etc

thanks

HI... To add my perspective on this. I am no SEO genius, but one thing is true. IF backlinks could ruin a site and put it on blacklist, the simplest thing one should do is blast his competition with a zillion backlinks and enjoy business coming your way. Now if every site did that, we would have a sandbox larger than google itself.

I think your argument makes sense dude. And I totally agree on penalty for on site optimization. One thing is a fact, content remains KING in SEO. Black, white, grey, red or even pink hat! Scraping content, spun content is bound to cause trouble. Have them on web 2.0 properties if you cannot get unique content, but never on the money site IMO.

Such thing as "too many backlinks" exists, as judging from google help forum there is lots of sandboxing or bans due to - too many backlinks for a news website.

I don't now if you call it sandbox or somehow else but even on Google webmasters forum there are many pages about Google penalties "-30 penalty", "-60 penalty" and "-995 penalty". You should read that before writing such a post. Even technicians from google admit that google penalize pages for buying links so google penalty does exist.

I had a website earning 5K a month for many month and it's hit with -30 penalty for 3 months now for excessive backlinking and it's making only $200 now.

There is even tool to check google penalty here:
hxxp://tools.seomoves.org/penaltychecker/

If you have more than 30-50 link exchanges on your website, then you can get penalized for "excessive backlinks", but do remember this is because YOU are linking to them.

If it was thousands or millions of one way backlinks to your site, then you can't get penalized.

i have heard some reputable people on here claim to have been de-indexed for up to 8 months. what are your thoughts on this?

If you re-wrote your title tags, removed keyword stuffing, added more unique content, then logged into "webmaster tools" (type it in google), then you can submit your site for reconsideration and almost always you'll get your site out of the deindex. It usually takes less than 1 month.
